E3 2007
captured some screenshots while it was live: [ Here]. JAF1970 05:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Up on Xbox.com now, too JAF1970 05:16, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- PS. Anyone notice the crickets at the end? Is "Starry Night" more than what it seems? JAF1970 05:25, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Um...can someone tell me at which point they see the 'other two Spartans?' Seriously, i've now looked through 5 times and can't find a thing.70.100.166.161 16:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- 1. Did you look in the Pelican pic? Click on it. 2. Joystiq and other sites noticed it. JAF1970 17:00, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- They look like they may just be Orbital Drop Shock Troopers to me.
- Im pretty sure that the picture in the pelican is just Master Chief, Sergeant Major A.J. Johnson (if you look in the high-def version it is clearly him) and as for the one in the center, I would say it is just the pilot. The pilots of pelicans wear different helms than your standard marine in both halo 1 and 2.
- Also, the bit about why the Master Chief put a gun to the Arbitors throat "as if stopping the Elite from performing an action" is a very speculative statement so the wording should be tweeked for NPOV policy, though in my own speculation I would agree thats probibly the case. Either that or its the scene where the chief and arbitor first meet up on earth... awkward... TheSittingDuck 18:05, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

- On closer inspection, the one in the back is most definitely Sgt. Johnson wearing his trademark hat.
Um, do these look familiar? SPARTAN #1 - SPARTAN #2 - do they look like "ORDINARY SOLDIERS" in that Pelican NOW? JAF1970 17:02, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Removal of E3 2007 Trailer "Starry Night" Reference
I've removed the reference to the "Starry Night" trailer in the E3 2007 Trailer section which stated: "sounds of a meadow and crickets are heard over the Bungie logo - a possible reference to the "Starry Night" video, implying the previous video may have more significance than previously thought". I've watched both trailers repeatedly and it is quite clear that the sound heard at the end of the E3 2007 trailer is simply the sound of the individual particles of the Bungie logo materializing and in no way resembles the sounds of crickets, hence has no relevance to the "Starry Night" trailer. Still raining here 02:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
- Um, anyone else think it sounds like crickets, etc? "Bungie logo materializing"? Are you high? JAF1970 17:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Are you? The Bungie logo assumes physical form from a group of smaller particles, hence it materializes. Would you prefer: "the Bungie logo comes together from all the itty bitty pieces floating around"? Download a high quality version of the trailer and actually listen to the sound effects at the end of the video. Unless crickets use synthesisers now I'm pretty certain it's not them. Merge back with Halo 3
Why was this split from the original Halo 3 Entry to begin with? That wasn't done for Halo 2, or Transformers. Leave the marketing part back there.
I'm requesting a merge icon be placed on top of this article.--TrevelyanL85A2 02:29, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Because it is massive and is its own article within itself. Sdornan 00:46, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
It's not massive. There's nothing wrong with a long article. If you're too lazy to read a long article, well I'm sorry, but tough. I'm formally requesting this gets merged back with Halo 3. other games/movies that have had a lot of marketing did not get their marketing sections split into a separate article, as best as I know. Can someone please merge this or put a merge discussion tag up in the article page? Thanks :)--TrevelyanL85A2 21:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with merging it back together. Its all part of the same topic and this article isn't that big at all. Look around wikipedia and you'll see that things like this usually are not split.157.174.221.167 15:22, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- There's a very good reason for forking the article, I suggest brushing up on WP:NPOV#Undue weight. Obviously, I would say no to a merge. hateless 21:45, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I actually think it would be beneficial if this article was expanded into a Marketing for games in the Halo series. Since they all had some hype leading up to their release that would make more sense than an entire article for just one game (although this article is quite large already). The article I propose would add some scope to this one's narrow focus while still giving Halo 3's titanic ad campaign the attention it deserves. Roman Slayer 22:32, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- I know, being a non-registered user, I don't really have grounds to talk about articles, but I do think that this article should be merged to the Halo 3 article, or expanded into a 'Marketing for the Halo Series' article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.156.49.82 (talk • contribs)
- The article has not been fully developed. Adding this back into Halo 3 would result in an unwieldy article, even when the article is chopped down into summaries; critical reception focusing on just the marketing of Halo 3 is numerous. It demonstrates significance beyond Halo 3. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 19:42, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Music releases
Well the trailer music for both 2006 and 2007 E3 show were released sometime after the trailers. 2006 was exclusivly on istore and the 2007 version was released on the bungie site. Should each be added to there sections?
- Speaking of music what about the Halo 3 Zune? There's a mention and an image on the Zune article. James086Talk | Email 14:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

4th grenade
Under the E3 07 trailer it says "the fourth grenade is an incendiary grenade called the "Super Double Cap Bomb". This has since been confirmed by Bungie as, in fact, an incendiary grenade." their is no link or source for this statement, could somebody provide one.71.32.51.155 21:17, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Believe videos Do NOT depict an actual story event
I am at work and cannot access the site, but Kotaku did an interview with Frankie about the videos and they were told that the company that made them does not even know what happens to MC in the game. They also said the diorama was only intended to be a "generic representation of a series of battles." If someone has proof otherwise, other than the blog listed, please correct me. Blogs generally aren't the best source since they are by nature, opinion pieces. I will add the Kotaku source when I get home.157.174.221.168 15:21, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- I changed the article and added the source, thanks to google.157.174.221.168 15:29, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- They do depict a pivotal event, according to Microsoft, etc. Whether it occurs in the game is another story. JAF1970 20:41, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- According to Frankie himself (of Bungie studios) the Marketing firm doesn't even know what happens so how could this be true?157.174.221.168 21:03, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

"If people might think the ads are spoilers. He said that the ads were created by a marketing team who had no idea how the game ends and that it is not meant to be part of the game's canon. Instead the ads, specifically that 1200-square-foot diorama created for them, is meant to be a generic representation of a series of battles" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.106.198.122 (talk) 22:28, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Name of gun
What's the name of the default machine gun weapon in Halo 3? Should mention that the Brute is raising Master Chief's weapon with his other hand. JAF1970 21:23, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- Its the Assault Rifle. Specifically the MA5C...I think. Of course all that really matters is that it is MC's weapon, the title and designation are just fancruft.157.174.221.168 18:16, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

The video is quite long - if anyone wants to put a fuller desciption of the events in the video, please do. "Last One Standing" video JAF1970 18:32, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Translator
I removed that reference. I found nothing on the diorama about a translator video. There is only the one coming out on the First. I think it was made up. Superbowlbound 19:14, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
No, it was there on the diorama webpage when it initially launched, but has since disappeared.

Why a diorama?
Why do they use ads that don't show anything from the actual game? Was the game not ready by the time they had to make the ads, or is it just not very impressive to look at? 70.15.116.59 02:12, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Well, the game wouldn't actually need to be ready for them to be able to produce videos using the engine, but the reason for the diorama was likely the desire for dramatic effect, or just to be different. I think the diorama ads are excellent, I'm glad they produced them. 24.13.34.230 06:03, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Good Article Review
I have failed, this article. Of course I believe that this article has the potential to become a good or even featured article, it is just not a great article at this time. First, I would like to commend the contributers of this article for providing so many references to the article, very nice. However I feel that first off, the images that are used on the article do not all have a good fair use summary, one of the summaries being "it discribes an important phase of the game" what game? What phase? Such things need to be on the image summary template. Also I feel that the article lists to many ways Halo 3 was marketed, the list needs serious cutting down. Some of the less important marketing, such as the ones that have one sentence or so, should just be deleted, or wrapped into another section titled "other advertising". Also some of the sections, such as a Hero Must Rise and the opening paragraph, contain uneutral statements, an example being "The game, thanks to its cleverly saturated marketing, infiltrated mainstream television, radio, film, and Hollywood like no game had before". Finally, the "A Hero Must Rise" section of the article needs cleaning. I hope that the contributers of this article can fix these few problems to make the article truly a Good article. Merger of Halo ActionClix
This is a stubby but well referenced one paragraph article that would fit into this article nicely. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:51, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose again. It's a separate game not a marketing scheme. Plus, it covers more than just Halo 3, if I'm not mistaken. ♦TH1RT3EN talk ♦ contribs 18:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose I understand that it has already been merged, but I really think that it doesn't belong here. It may not merit it's own page, but it would be much better suited to the page about the Halo series in general than here. The thing is that it is not a marketing device for Halo 3; it is in fact a seperate game that includes characters from all of the Halo series. We don't put, for example, information about the star wars miniatures game on the page about "The Empire Strikes Back," so why should this be different?

Decided to take a break from changing usernames and hopped by to see what was in the GAN pool. I'll be coming up with a review shortly. bibliomaniac15 00:52, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
I haven't taken a great big look into prose, but here are some preliminary things that I think should be addressed.
- I think that "extensive marketing campaign" in the first sentence should be bolded.
- One of the more serious problems I'm seeing is that there is a lack of transitioning between sentences. As a result, the prose seems rather choppy. For example, in Halo 3 marketing#Other tie-ins: "Bungie produced a Halo 3-themed Microsoft Zune which was preloaded with Halo content, including a custom episode of the popular series Red vs. Blue.[35] Microsoft sponsored the #40 car driven by David Stremme for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Dover 400 Nextel Cup Series. The car featured a Halo 3 inspired paintjob featuring the title for the game printed prominently on the hood and rear bumper, as well as large pictures of Master Chief on each of the rear fenders.[36] Pontiac announced a sweepstakes with a Halo 3-branded Pontiac G6 GXP Street and being the first to play the game on an IMAX screen as prizes. Pontiac will also have a promotion tour featuring their vehicles.[37]" There aren't any transitions between the Zune, the racecar, and the Pontiac, so it all feels rather random and choppy. Even an "also" in that sentence would do.
- Some of the refs have not been formatted properly, namely refs 31-37, 46, and 47.
bibliomaniac15 01:32, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- I fixed the refs, bolded the header, and condensed and cleaned up the section in particular. I figure it's better to remove some of the minutiae so that it reads better. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 18:55, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
The prose reads much better! I've just completed a big copyedit. Since everything else has been fixed up now, I see no reason not to pass this article. bibliomaniac15 23:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
