Citizenship?[edit]

The first sentence has been changed from describing Bwana as "Kenyan" to "Kenyan-American" and then back again. I hadn't heard that he'd gotten U.S. Citizenship so was skeptical of the change to "Kenyan-American" but then I found the the Sounders FC press release page https://www.soundersfc.com/post/2018/01/11/sounders-fc-signs-handwalla-bwana-homegrown-player (which I added as a reference on March 15) which clearly states "Citizenship: United States / Kenya". -IGTaylor (talk) 18:01, 9 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update: an unsigned user recently changed "Kenyan" to "Somali Kenyan" which I initially reverted but on further consideration, I see that there are multiple references to his father being Somali, including the interview I added the article as well as this article https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2018/3/5/17067952/handwalla-bwana-seattle-sounders-refugee-camp and this table: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47415226. Current page has inconsistency in citizenship ("Somali-Kenyan-American" in short description vs. "Kenyan" in text) as well as birthplace ("Kismayo, Somalia" in text, and "Mombasa, Kenya" in sidebar). I don't see much reliable information outside of twitter on his U.S. citizenship status, so leave it to others to clean this up with reliable information. -IGTaylor (talk) 22:20, 9 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Probably the best solution, as with the Derrick Jones article is for editors not to characterize him as any particular nationality. That way we minimize unnecessary edit warring. The article spells out the objective facts nicely. CUA 27 (talk) 13:33, 24 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Age?[edit]

Recent edit (12 July 2018) changed birth year from 1999 to 1997. Currently (13 July 2018) the Sounders page for him has 1997 listed as the birth year https://www.soundersfc.com/players/131/handwalla-bwana while the MLS page has 1999 https://www.mlssoccer.com/players/handwalla-bwana. The Sounders article about the youngest Sounder to score a goal (referenced at the end of the career section) has been taken down, supporting the correction to his age, but requiring further edits to the page. -IGTaylor (talk) 17:24, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
