Acording to the vid it was one of the French drivers who attempted to use the train and who quit when it was discovered. The 15 days were actually not a penalty for the Germans but rather a bonus for the Americans because they had followed the the originally planed route up to Alaska while the European teams got onto ships in Seatle. I must say that the report in the video makes a lot of sense and we should be careful soiling dead peoples memory if there is any doubt.
On another line ... the man made it to the rank of major general. Not sure if it should be mentioned. That particular rank had different roles in various armies and at various times. JB. --92.193.207.187 (talk) 00:29, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
