Untitled[edit]

It is reported that his degree from Hofstra was a BA degree not BS. Can someone from Hofstra verify this? Should there be mention about the lawsuit from the NJ Attorney General that seeks him to removed from office for financial mismanagement? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.190.9.225 (talk) 17:06, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Making the article NPOV[edit]

Just a note to say that I've edited out the promotional, resume-like material that was previously on this page. Before, the article was identical to Harold Raveche's page at SIT: http://www.stevens.edu/sit/president/biography.cfm. Emiao (talk) 06:43, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We represent Stevens Institute of Technology and we believe this page currently has a negative bias and doesn't adhere to Wikipedia's mission to keep biographies neutral. It only contains a small paragraph about Dr. Raveche's early career and a discussion about the recent lawsuit. We would like it to be edited to contain more information about Dr. Raveche's career at Stevens Institute of Technology. Emmasmith3 (talk) 22:14, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some of the accomplishments of Dr. Raveche while at Stevens. I was hoping someone else could add more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.197.66.249 (talk) 17:33, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We added some information about Dr. Raveche's work at the NIST, RPI, and Stevens. Emmasmith3 (talk) 21:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you represent the Stevens Institute of Technology, then you have a conflict of interest in editing this article even if the material is reliably sourced to third parties (please see [Conflict of interest] for the Wikipedia policy). The additional information you added about Harold Raveche's career at Stevens contains a lot of "material that appears to promote the interests or visibility of an article's author, its author's family members, employer, associates, or their business or personal interests." Some of it is only tangentially relevant to the actually biography of Harold Raveche and looks as if it is designed more to enhance his reputation through positive associations. Examples include:

  • "Under Dr. Raveche’s lead, in 2004, Stevens was named to the top 20 of Forbes’ list of America’s Most Entrepreneurial Colleges.[5] Business Week cited Stevens for its alumni that found technology companies." (this is about Stevens, not Harold Raveche)
  • "In 2008, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security selected Stevens as one of 11 universities to lead one of five new Centers of Excellence." (again about Stevens, not Raveche)
  • "Also in 2008, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) selected Stevens as the University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) focused on systems engineering. A UARC is a DoD research center associated with a university." (again about Stevens, not Raveche)
  • "Dr. Raveche supported Stevens’ online learning program, WebCampus. The Alfred P. Sloan Consortium awarded the program an Excellence in Online Teaching & Learning Award in 2003[10] and 2007[11]. The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) awarded the program a 21st Century Best Practices Award for Distance Learning." (ditto. Raveche 'supporting' a program is not necessarily grounds for its inclusion in the article unless he originated it or else did something notable with it)
  • "In 2008, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) awarded Stevens the Jostens Institution of the Year award for its high standards of collegiate academic and athletic performance. Stevens was selected from over 300 universities in the ECAC with Division I, II, and III programs." (ditto-- unrelated to Raveche)
  • "The Babbio Center, a six-story building designed in 2002 by Ecoplan Architects of Englewood Cliffs, N.J., houses the new technology management school.[14] The Rocco Technology Center was completed in 2000 to house research initiatives and named after Vincent A. Rocco '67." (ditto. This is detail that does not enhance the reader's knowledge of Raveche; it belongs in the article on Stevens, or in a separate article at least)

I believe that this information is mostly irrelevant to the subject of the article and also renders the article NPOV (because it is explicitly promotes the interests of Raveche and his staff). I will edit it down again. Emiao (talk) 07:43, 29 December 2009 (UTC) Two typos in my own post corrected. Emiao (talk) 07:49, 29 December 2009 (UTC) The Babbio center construction should be there because it is not yet finished. It is a sign of the Leadership skills of the Stevens President. 10 years to construct 1 building? Obviously, the president has spent all the money and has bankrupt the school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.190.9.225 (talk) 18:46, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2015 PBerzinski04 COI edits[edit]

I've reviewed PBerzinski04 2015 COI edits, and I'm satisfied that they are for the most part neutral in tone. I've added a single sentence pointing to the December 2009 NYT editorial, which leads in to the January 2010 settlement. I accept the subtitle change from "Allegations of financial impropriety" to "Allegations by NJ Attorney General". Per BLP, we must be majorly influenced by the nature and terms of the settlement when framing a description of the episode; and there is sufficient content to allow readers to draw their own conclusions. --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:47, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
