History and other edits[edit]

I'm afraid that User:172.164.21.251 was a little too quick in reverting Nyttend's changes. In the process, other edits were wiped out, including my addition of a photo to illustrate the article. If I may quote: "[D]on't just erase someone else's hard work."

I'm undoing the latest reversions, just because it'd be so much work to go through and manually recover all of the edits that were unintentionally reverted. I'll add back the "History" section, but with citation-needed templates.

I think some of the anonymous editor's additions were quite valuable, although I disagree with others. In particular, I think that the listing of every business and government building in the town was poor encyclopedia style. A good article contains the information that a general reader wants, but doesn't overwhelm that reader with minor matters.

The history section was extremely good—if, emphasize if, it's verifiable. What were the sources? "Verifiable" doesn't just mean "I know that it's true"; there are lots of people who know that Barack Obama is an Islamic terrorist, and lots of others who know that Dick Cheney personally set off the BP oil spill. We also need sources because of possible copyright issues: some articles that looked good have turned out to contain long unattributed quotes from source material. Formatting footnotes takes some work, admittedly, but it's important work that has to be done. (Lest you think that I'm binding up heavy loads for others to carry, see Banner County, Nebraska, on which I did extensive work, including lots and lots of citations.) If you're having trouble figuring out the technical end of it, drop a line at my talk page, and I'll be glad to try and help.

Also, could I suggest that the editor register and get a username? Among other things, that would allow comments to be directed to their personal talk page. It's a reasonably hassle-free process, and makes it easier to communicate with other editors. (That accomplished, it'd be great if they'd join WP:WikiProject Nebraska; we need more editors in the Third District.)
