Dogging spot

[edit]

I removed this non-insightful comment from the main article as it wasn't relevant to Hawkinge and it didn't have a reference - hearsay doesn't have a place on Wikipedia. JTA 16:01, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The best view of the Channel Tunnel complex is from a car-park on the North Downs, locally referred to as 'the dogging spot' due to nocturnal car-based recreational activities normally pursued there."

Rewrite & merge proposal

[edit]

I am trawling the Shepway articles at the moment - hence the rewrite. Wiki suggestions (see How to write about settlements) are to include references with the text, and not to have long lists of external links. There are also suggestions of what to include in such an article. One thing that has been missed is the third tier of local government - the parish council. Hawkinge is both a village and a civil parish: it is possible that other settlements come with the latter boundary - perhaps Selsted? - but that is something I am not aware of. Perhaps a local editor knows if that is so? There also is an opening for stuff about local clubs (sports particularly). I have asked for citation on the "commuter" statement, since that is always a difficult thing to show: where do they commute to? Finally I have suggested that the separate article about Old Hawkinge be merged here: that is precisely what has happened in reality, and there seems little chance of it being anything other than a stub? Much better to have a proper paragraph here. Peter Shearan (talk) 13:58, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
