Power Metal coverage
[edit]Could use some additional coverage of Power Metal lyrics, as they typically cover fantastical themes as well as scientific or more pensive topics, contrary to the two main categories of "sex, rock and roll" or " Hell, injustice, mayhem, carnage and death" mentioned in the lead, and contrary to any of the "other themes" currently covered. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_metal#Lyrical_themes for some examples. Vortiene (talk) 16:55, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the idea. Power metal section added, both as own section and in the lead. As well, the claim that metal lyrics can be grouped into party/chaos themes was toned down, as this is just one person's view, and it may have been somewhat accurate at the time she wrote the book, but current metal lyrical themes are changing. Allusions in Lyrics
[edit]The listed topics focus mainly on topics in metal which are considered transgressive or crude, but a lot of metal bands make allusions to both classical and popular works. Iron Maiden is particularly known for doing this, but Lord of the Rings in particular is a popular subject among bands of diverse styles. Many bands also make reference poetry. Is there any place for such an as subsection in this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ganondox (talk • contribs) 21:50, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Ganondox: I have made a section Heavy metal lyrics#Appropriated lyrics about this. Error (talk) 20:00, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
Industrial Metal
[edit]Industrial metal should probably get it's own subsection, as it's known for it's particularly angsty and transgressive lyrics (often more so than extreme metal), and it's association with numerous controversies such as Columbine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ganondox (talk • contribs) 21:55, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
