Accuracy of this article

[edit]

I live relatively near Heggedal, and although I don't know enough about the area to write a decent article about it, almost 90 % of this article is a hoax. To go through some specific points:

  • "Heggedal is a Norwegian province." Depends how you define "province", of course, but a couple of hundred houses and about the sixth-sized settlement in the municipality of Asker suggests it's hardly worthy of that name.
  • "Sorounded by mountains and wild forests, it is a paradise for climbers and nature-lovers." POV.
  • The center of Heggedal is well know by the citizens of Scandinavia for its good clean air, the river Skithegga and the local pub (Rustad Meieri). I'm a citizen of Scandinavia - heck, of Norway - and all I know about it is that it's a place in Asker.
  • "This is a time you will experience polakker (manual-workers) riding in their old cars, collecting various goods." "Polakker" is Norwegian for Poles. Should tell you everything you need to know about that sentence.
  • "Kiwi is another attraction in Heggedal. It is a large shop containing goods from all around the world. With it's distinctive character and class, Kiwi can easily be compared to Harrods in London and other high class shops." Kiwi is a chain store in Norway. There's about as many of them in Norway as there are McDonald's.
  • " On one of the sides of this lake, there is a beautiful little beach, where surfers can surf in the summer months...waves that can easily be compared to the beaches in other tropical countries." It's a lake. 150 metres across, 600 metres long. [1]
  • "The famous Heggedaldialect is also spoken in this area" Coincidentally, if I were to utter those words that are quoted in the article, it would sound pretty much like the samples here. Heggedal shares its dialect with about 300,000 people in the area.
  • " In the early 1900's, Heggedal was a rural farmland, producing over 75% of the wool and meat in the Akershus area. " That's a population of 200 in a couple of square kilometres producing 75 % of the wool and meat in an area of 5,000 square kilometres and a population of a couple of hundred thousand. Most of which was rural farmland at the time, too.
  • "Heggedal then became one of the largest exportation ports in Norway" It's inland. It can not be a port.
  • "Even today, Heggedals's importance in national distribution remains, as it is the third largest inter-modal port in the country after Drammen and Oslo." I'm not sure what "inter-modal" means, but in any case I'd guess that Stavanger or Kristiansand has slightly more port-traffic than an inland town...
  • "List of famous people" Four of them I've never heard of, Balle Klorin was a character in a TV show, while Anders Lange appears to have been from here [2] [3] (both in Norwegian) - which, I believe, is about the only verifiable information that can be found...
  • "Timeline of important events" Again, too much importance for a small town
  • " "Sønner av Norge" has also been used as the Norwegian anthem for the Commonwealth Games." Norway never took part in the Commonwealth Games, as they have never been a member of the British Commonwealth.

There are a lot of other unverifiable, dubious claims, and my suggestion is that the article is rewritten completely. Sam Vimes 14:12, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More concerns

[edit]
  • and storms are not unusual ... storms never occur. I live a few kilometres away from Heggedal and I've never experienced one.
  • The "Heggedaldialect" is not famous, and the section about it is garbage.
  • Franz Josef Weern, one of the "famous people" listed, is up for deletion as a total hoax. The rest of the section is pure fantasy.
  • The timeline is highly dubious. It claims that the first map was drawn in 1890 by a non-existant person.
  • Heggedal doesn't have an anthem or a national hymn, and the song in question is up for deletion as hoax. Its alleged writers, Franz Josef Weern and Glyme Torvaldsen, are fictitious.

These and more are the problems which swamp this article. Personally, I feel the whole article should be on the brink of deletion. Punkmorten 16:03, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with deletion is that I fear that the article can never be recreated - which would be somewhat of a waste, and I feel something should be here. Definitely not this mess, though...I'll see what I can do over the weekend. Sam Vimes 20:55, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

None of the images in the old version appear to be usable according to copyright regulations. For example, I think the map of Heggedal is a blatant copyright violation from http://www.gulesider.no/gsi/map.do?spraak=. All the images appear to be tagged now. OK. Thanks, that'll be useful. Punkmorten 15:45, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
