Early 70s timeline[edit]

Some description of the exact order of events would be in order, as the NRHP nomination was in 1972, and the urban renewal was in the "early 70s". Were the demolitions prior to or after the NRHP nomination? Was the NRHP nomination a direct result of the demolitions? Were the first steps of the NRHP nomination process and the demolitions happening simultaneously? If so, what was the political climate of the time like? Coming so soon after each other, I imagine that there was some conflict and debate between the people pushing for NRHP nomination and those pushing for urban renewal. Could some sense of the debate of the time be provided (e.g. from contemporaneous newspaper articles)? -- 205.175.124.30 (talk) 23:31, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The bulk of the urban renewal was from 1973 to about 1977. (see http://www.helenahistory.org/walking_mall_1970s.htm) ) Your request is a reasonable one, but to do so requires a fair amount of going to the Lewis and Clark library and rooting around in hardcopy sources. If you want sources to pass WP:RS, anyway. The Helenahistory site is generally pretty good and pulls from old newspapers, but some would squawk about it being an amateur's site.
