untitled nobility[edit]

A recent edit summary says 'untitled nobility' is essentially an oxymoron. If so, it's an oxymoron that (if memory serves) appears in a number of books. —Tamfang (talk) 06:46, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The phrase "untitled nobility" simply refers to nobles without titles, as explained at Heraldica.org. The distinction is clarified in the Wikipedia articles for Gentry and Nobility, and is properly used in several nation-specific articles dealing with lists of nobles. 76.105.171.161 (talk) 00:02, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

separation[edit]

For this reason, the helmets and crests in German and Nordic arms are considered essential to the coat of arms and are never separated from it.

Perhaps this needs clarification? I've seen German shields displayed sans crest, and German crests displayed sans shield. —Tamfang (talk) 06:06, 27 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
