Multiple blue links[edit]

@Boleyn: WP:DDD is not a policy or guideline. Wikipedia:Disambiguation#oneblue (a guideline) says "Rarely should a bulleted entry have more than one navigable link; including more than one link can confuse the reader.". "Rarely" is not "never", and the blue link in fl., as mandated by WP:MOSNUM, is not going to confuse anyone, but will help some. Please do not remove any such links in future. (I have now corrected fl. to fl., as specified in that guideline, though the old version worked fine). PamD 11:19, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And have gone back to fl., as the template didn't seem helpful. PamD 11:22, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PamD, you must known I am well aware what DDD is. I agree that I would have been better to direct you straight to MOS:DABENTRY: Include exactly one navigable (blue) link to efficiently guide readers to the most relevant article for that use of the ambiguous term. Do not wikilink any other words in the line. (it is in the guidelines in bold, not my emphasis). There has been long consensus on dabs not to link fl. as dabs are navigational aids, not articles. MOS:NUM specifically states that it is for articles, and it also states The linked forms should not be used on disambiguation pages when discussing fl. @Boleyn: Sorry, you're right, I didn't spot the "not on disambiguation pages" mention in Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Uncertain.2C_incomplete.2C_or_approximate_dates. But there seems to be an inconsistency between the apparent no-exceptions of the bolded "Do not wikilink any other words in the line." in MOS:DABENTRY and the "rarely" of Wikipedia:Disambiguation#oneblue. Boleyn PS I don't think that using {{u}} alerts the person you're replying to, while {{ping}} does so and is therefore often more useful - you could see whether you get one, or two, alerts to this page now, as I've used both of them for comparison ... there seems to be a confusing range of templates for user names, and I haven't seen a page which lists and compares {{u}}, {{user}}, {{ping}} etc. PamD 16:11, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Pam, I got 2 pings. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 16:21, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
