Flight from Germany[edit]

Berta Geissmar (1944), The Baton and the Jackboot, pp 317-8: states that Janssen fled Germany to London in 1937 at two hours notice. He then stayed with her in London and Beecham engaged him for a concert. No information about Buenos Aires, though he may well have moved on to there.

This article says that he left Germany in 1938 but offers no citation for this.

The article needs a lot of inline citations to reliable sources and probably some corrections!

ADDENDUM Geissmar p 352 says that at Christmas 1938, back on his feet, he told her that he had worked in Vienna, London and Paris. In 1939 he was to go to London, then Buenos Aires, then New York. Quite possibly he had further problems with this plan.

Posthumous Charge of Nazism[edit]

The source is Fred K. Prieberg, Handbuch deutsche Musiker 1933 - 1945. Prieberg gives very exact references: according to the files of the "Reichskulturkammer" (held in the German Bundesarchiv in Berlin) Janssen became member of the Nazi Party on 1st of March 1937, his membership number was 3.912.155. Janssen's membership was cancelled in 1938 because he had left Germany. Another source Prieberg cites (Bundesarchiv R 55/ 20460. Blatt 167) says the reason why Janssen has to leave Germany was section (§) 175, that means he was accused of homosexuality. Wurl-Berlin (talk) 23:30, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
