Little Amwell and Hertford Heath[edit]

The Parish Church of Holy Trinity, Little Amwell, seems to be sited right in the middle of the village of Hertford Heath. Can anybody explain the conundrum please? Alansplodge (talk) 19:07, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Someone living locally may have a fuller picture but the answer appears to lie in the redefinition of the church and civil parish boundaries. Prior to 1990 Herford Heath village was split north and south between Little Amwell and Great Amwell civil parishes. After this date a new civil parish of Hertford Heath was created from the western parts of the two Amwells, and the remainder of Little Amwell includin the village of Little Amwell became part of an enlarged Great Amwell. Looks like the church parishes were also realigned to some extent resulting in Little Amwell Holy Trinity becoming the parish Church for Hertford Heath. Historically there appears to have also been a detached portion of Little Amwell parish which at some time was subsumed elsewhere.Tmol42 (talk) 22:27, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for that. Do you have a ref so that we can add it to the article? Alansplodge (talk) 08:22, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To research and then address the question posed I had a general read up on several websites which touched on this. Perhaps the neatest example can be found here which is the the Parish Council History page of the Hertford Heath village website. There is a very detailed account of the earlier history of the Amwells on the British History online website which deserves being included on one or other or both of the Hertford Heath and Great Amwell articles.Tmol42 (talk) 01:11, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's great. I had looked at the British History online pages without seeing a single mention of Hertford Heath - hence my bewilderment. My original intention had been to add a brief note about Vera Barclay - not mentioned in the parish council history, but her parents are. I'll have a go at feeding this info into both pages, but it'll need a bit of re-structuring I think. Thanks again. Alansplodge (talk) 17:22, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
