Music[edit]

One of the things that surprised me looking for her name (well, Mrs. Her Husband's Name) in http://www.libraryweb.org/~digitized/books/History_Douglass_Monument.pdf was how she seemed to be considered the go-to person for important music. She conducted the choir that sang while the statue was being unveiled; she conducted music at the memorial service, as well as accompanying hymns.

One suspects that, were we writing this more contemporaneously, we'd be talking more about her musical life as well. There's nothing about it that's as important or stands the test of time, but it's clear everyone around her trusted her to do it on major occassions, surrounded by prominent people. I think that almost throwaway line about being considered an accomplished musician might have been more significant. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs 09:59, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
