Copyright question[edit]

After checking Powell, there doesn't seem to be any copyright infringement. Was this tagged in error? —Preceding unsigned comment added by GrahamBould (talkcontribs) 08:14, 17 March 2009

This tagging was automated following a discussion at WP:ANI, here, where it was reported that you had been pasting content from this book into articles on Wikipedia for well over a year, an allegation which you confirmed here (although you did not, as requested, respond at ANI). There is no error in the tagging, as there was no way to individually check the over 1,000 articles involved in a timely fashion. It is possible that some articles identified as potentially problematic will be clear, but that infringement exists has been independently confirmed in several articles by various editors as reported at that ANI thread and at the project taskforce assembled to address the matter, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Gastropods/Subpage for organizing CopyVio Cleanup. Hence we have no choice but to clear these articles. If you wish to confer with other contributors of the project over the specific language and whether or not earlier versions can be restored, please do so there. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:14, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've checked the article against Powell, and there is no reuse of text or other cause for concern on copyright matters.-gadfium 18:32, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is worth pointing out however that Graham Bould copied verbatim from many different sources, not just from Powell. The prose seems suspiciously slick and I suspect that it may have been copied from somewhere. Invertzoo (talk) 23:48, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem removed[edit]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://www.marlin.ac.uk/speciesinformation.php?speciesID=3488. Infringing material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:29, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
