Quick Merge I think that this should indeed be merged with Dead Sea Highway if nobody objects within a reasonable amount of time, I will do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartyshoe (talkcontribs) .

Merge - Dead Sea Highway should be merged/added into the Route 90 article. --Shuki 20:52, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge per Smartyshoe and Shuki. I think the use of the Naomi Shemer quote is not totally appropriate for this road, as the road from Jerusalem by Jericho (south of it actually) to the Dead Sea is for the most of the distance the west-east road. gidonb 20:31, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

irrelevant?

[edit]

Some casual research does not have the song Jerusalem of Gold relating to a Dead Sea Highway but rather, "And no one descends to the Dead Sea By way of Jericho." Should I suggest the 'dead sea' article be deleted entirely? --Shuki 23:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it is not a correct concept for a redirect. The way of Jericho from the song is really by route of near Jericho, largely on the Jerusalem to Allenby Bridge road only turning south direction Dead Sea south of Jericho. Not that it would matter much to have such a redirect, but strictly speaking the Highway should be entirely deleted. gidonb 02:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The translation I use says "And no one takes the Dead Sea Highway that runs through Jericho" and later "And we shall take the dead sea highway by means of Jericho" Smartyshoe 00:46, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but that translation is not very accurate. Derech in Hebrew is most often translated to road, but route is also good. Regards, gidonb 01:18, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In short... Dead Sea Highway ia a creation of stupid translator and never existed in reality... neither route 90 or the eastern part of route 1 (Jerusalem-Jericho) should be refered as highway.--User:Nitsansh 20:24, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

As Israeli roadsigns are notorious for their misspellings, I don't see the problem writing "Gandhi's road" instead of the incorrect "Gandi's Road," since that is what he (and the road) were called. Cheers, TewfikTalk 19:42, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe that the roadsign is good evidence of what the MoT has actually named it. While his memorial website (Hebrew Language) is http://www.gandi.org.il/, the only published reference I could find is an Amira Hass OpEd, which uses the Gandhi spelling, though I acknowledge that that is hardly definitive. Perhaps there is something on record with the ministry? Cheers, TewfikTalk 22:14, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Route 90 is the longest road in Israel"

[edit]

Might it therefore be an idea to say HOW long it is? :P 86.132.139.82 02:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This highway extends into occupied lands

[edit]

This highway extends into occupied lands, therefore the name "Highway 90 (Israel)" is pov and not neutral or following the world view.

I suggest we change the name to "Highway 90 (Israel and the occupied territories)" --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 11:06, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree after seeing the comments at Hwy 87. You might want to open a centralized discussion.Cptnono (talk) 05:41, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

what does this mean ?

[edit]

"a group of approximately 200 cycles tried to board on the road "

This phrase is used twice, and it is meaningless in English. They tried to ride on the road ? Obstruct the road ? Barricade the road ? Camp on the road ? Eregli bob (talk) 05:36, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can recollect the incident it refers to, but don't understand exactly what the editor was trying to say either. Maybe the whole section should be removed. What do you think? —Ynhockey (Talk) 23:33, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lowest Road?

[edit]

The article states "The section of Route 90 passing the Dead Sea is named Dead Sea Highway, and it is this location that is the lowest road in the world." I believe this is no longer the base as the Eiksund Tunnel, completed in 2008, is 942 feet below sea level which I believe is much, much lower than the Dead Sea Highway. Its the lowest surface road but not the lowest road — Preceding unsigned comment added by Le Quack UK (talkcontribs) 11:25, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What you say makes sense (that there might be a lower road that's in a tunnel), but actually Highway 90 is more than 300 m (1,000 feet) below sea level, and in some places more than 390 m. It is therefore lower than the Eiksund Tunnel, which goes only to negative 287 m. —Ynhockey (Talk) 10:41, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Israel or Palestine?

[edit]

Hi, I'm Danny from Palestine.

How do you define if a road is in Israel, Palestine or Israel–Palestine?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danny from Palestine (talkcontribs) 14:48, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The road is mostly in Israel proper. part of it (roughly 1/4 to 1/5 of it) is in the West Bank which you may consider as Palestine. The road did not exist (with this number. I think parts of it did not exist) at the time the whole land was called "Palestine" (1922-1948). Now all you need to do is pick your favorite definition.
