Name

[edit]

Hilal e Jurat covers the same subject. Which one should be kept?

I am checking the official GHQ spelling to help those incharge arrived at an informed decision.

I just redirected Hilal-E-Jurrat to this page. If someone wants to incorporate the information on that page, they can access it by it's history or by following this link. If the other page has the better title, then a page move will have to occur, and will require administrative attention.McKay 15:14, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comments removed from article

[edit]

I removed the following from the article space, as they were questions that were more approprite here.

"Why are the awards and decorations to Pakistan Navy not shown in the list

Is there any Pakistan Navy's man whose has been awarded by Hilal-e-Jurat?

  • PN-138 Admiral M. Shariff was awarded HJ"

pronunciation

[edit]

I've removed the pronunciation /ˈhləəjuːærəət/ as unintelligible. It's neither English nor Urdu. In English, it would correspond to something like "Heela a ee You-arra ut", and in Urdu to s.t. like "حيل ا يوار ات", neither of which fits the spelling. Is it supposed to be English? Can you spell it out in homonyms? — kwami (talk) 22:39, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right thats what you mean. I copied that directly from the India article which lead me to the IPA and thats where I attempted to copy the sound. It's pronounciation in Urdu is "Huh-lal a ju raat". It's the nearest prononciation. I think I chose the wrong letters. NarSakSasLee (talk) 22:53, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Unless we have the actual English, though, IMO we should stick to Urdu. I'll make a stab at it.
I take it then that a better transliteration would be "Halāl-a-Jurāt", since there's no i sound? — kwami (talk) 23:39, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for it. I'll be sure to check up the pronounciation again. I'm 95% sure thats the way you pronounce it. NarSakSasLee (talk) 23:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
