Hillbrow Prep School[edit]
I believe the School was originally in Rugby but moved to Featherstone Castle Northumberland in about 1939/40. I,John Bennett, joined this Scholl in late 1940 under the Head master Mr.Dixon and his wife with boys under the age of 12 from all corners of England and some from abroad. I left in early 1948. No connection with Featherstone Castle Northumberland Featherstone Castle Northumberland[edit]
Whilst there may be a connection between the Hillbrow School that Rupert Brooke attended in Rugby between 1897 and 1901 and Featherstone Castle in Northumberland, there is no connection between either of these schools and the Hill Brow School that existed in Eastbourne from 1901 (or earlier) and which moved to Brent Knoll in Somerset in 1940. The fact that (according to his biographer Christopher Hassall)Rupert Brooke remained at the Hillbrow School in Rugby until the end of the summer term in 1901, and the recorded existence of Hill Brow School in the 1901 Eastbourne census that was conducted in March of that year, precludes the possibility that the two schools were related. Post Script: In fact, it now transpires that Hill Brow School first appears in the 1893/4 edition of Pike's Eastbourne Directory, which further precludes any connection with the Rugby school of that name.
