undue weight[edit]

Why is most of this article discussing fringe royalist groups? There is absolutely no reason for an article whose scope is discussing religious practice of Hinduism in Nepal to be spending 50% of the article body on fringe incidents. The whole garbage on communism/secularism needs one paragraph at max.Bakaman 01:24, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you have raised the question of undue weight. But this can be applied in the article Hinduism in Russia where undue weight is being given importance. Especially an event which has no coverage in mainstream media like BBC, CNN etc. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 01:36, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
False analogy. The Moscow Times, AFP, NYT and others have documented the persecution you discuss.Bakaman 00:11, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't article focus on differences between Nepali and Indian Hinduism?[edit]

Until the Shah regime ended in 2008, Nepal was a Hindu kingdom. The King and his Brahman advisors were empowered to put their own spin on things. When the Ranas were in power, Muluki Ain wrote many Hindu concepts into law, but adapted them to the local context where there were numerous ethnic groups not fitting neatly into any of the four varnas.

While all this was happening under the Shahs and Ranas in Nepal, the British on the ascendency in India. They were increasingly willing to intervene against Hindu practices they found objectionable such as untouchability and suttee. They were trying to give the multiplicity of religions (Hindu, Islam, Sikhims, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and even tribal animists) some kind of equality. After Independence, India has tried to be a secular nation, despite resistance by sectarian parties.

I think this article needs to get into factors that make Nepali Hinduism distinctive. LADave (talk) 23:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Missing references[edit]

RoyalBazi, your recent edits added a number of short footnotes which refer to references that are not present in the article. Could you please add the corresponding bibliographic information in the references section? Currently missing references are (some of these may have been present before you added material earlier today):

  • Landon 1928

Also, if you copied the content from another Wikipedia article you need to provide attribution. See WP:CWW for details of what to do. Thanks! Wham2001 (talk) 18:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Early Modern Era[edit]

Hi all, the section "Early Modern Era" does not seem to be supported by the specific sources that are being cited. Could someone please tell me what I am missing? I am not questioning the validity of the information exactly, just the accuracy of the information based on the sources cited. Thank you, Hemmingweigh (talk) 04:12, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hinduization by Rulers[edit]

Hinduization is a term used by some scholars to describe the process of making something Hindu that was not previously. The way that the term "Hinduization" is used in this "Hinduization by Rulers" section is thus not coherent. Can anyone explain why this term should be used to here to explain how rulers made laws that alluded to Hindu traditions in an already Hindu culture?
