The following entry is located on page 127 in the Chronology section of the book Popular Dance: From Ballroom to Hip-Hop:

"2007: The University of East London Institute for Performing Arts (IPAD) begins the only BA dance degree program in the world to specialize in hip-hop, urban, and global dance forms."

This book was published in 2010. This sentence currently appears in the Education section of the article and it was first added to Wikipedia by Othomaso on August 23, 2009 and stated in this way:

"The University of East London's Institute for Performing Arts (IPAD) has the only urban dance Bachelor degree in the world specialising in hip hop, urban, and global dance forms."

The material appeared in Wikipedia before it appeared in the book. There is an entry here on Wikipedia's mirrors and forks list. Thank you. //Gbern3 (talk) 01:57, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

I've restored the instance of {{Infobox dance}}. If there is a need to add "style" and "cultural marker" data, the parameters should be added to that template. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:25, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see that the infobox has again been reverted, without any attempt to discuss the matter here. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 23:10, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion

[edit]

As far as I know, the original dance in early Hip Hop was called breaking/breakdance and popping and locking. The term Hip Hop Dance was created later, and not by the Hip Hop scene. Steffen 28/12/2015

More styles

[edit]

Probably "Spongebob dance" is worth to be mentioned in the "Derivative street styles" sub-section. [1] This is a famous dance that probably fits in this sub-style:

I think this article could use more references to other sub-forms such as Waacking, Voguing, and Crumping in particular. This styles definitely played a key role in the evolution of hip hop dance as a whole, though they may have evolved in parallel to the major styles already mentioned in the article. Hip hop dance

[edit]

Hip hop dance is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. It is influenced by a wide range of styles that were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. The television show Soul Train and the 1980s films Breakin', Beat Street, and Wild Style showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop dance mainstream exposure. 103.215.206.192 (talk) 14:40, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
