I cannot help but think that this deletion request is the result of a personal grudge. Ikeda is one of the major aikido teachers in the United States, and is well worth an article in WP. Djiann 20:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would help the cause of keeping the article if you can add sources that show this person meets WP:BIO. See Wp:bio#Specific_examples_of_sources for some guides. The sources currently in the article are borderline primary sources -- ones that better meet the definitions in Wp:bio#Specific_examples_of_sources would be good additions. --Fabrictramp 22:18, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll look into that soon Djiann 22:31, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As the reviewing administrator, I decline to speedy delete. Speedy is only for articles that indicate no possible importance--any plausible claim is fully sufficient to pass speedy. It is not necessary to show the person is important, nor is it necessary that there be any sources. If importance is thought insufficient or insufficiently demonstrated, this is tested at AfD. Sources are necessary for that. Cf. WP:Deletion policy. DGG (talk) 23:09, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that saved me some work :-) Djiann 07:43, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American aikidoka

[edit]

I removed Category:American aikidoka until we have a source that says he has naturalized as a US citizen. Heroeswithmetaphors (talk) 02:28, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the discussion topic in Mitsugi Saotome's discussion page, and saw that Hiroshi Ikeda has been removed from this list, over the lack of citable sources that indicate that they are naturalized US citizens.

I am wondering why we are restricting "American Aikidoka" to US citizens. It seems to me that teaching in the US on a permanent basis is neccessary and sufficient to be an "American Aikidoka." Does use of the term "American" or some other place name cause some Wikipedia guideline to come into play that forces this? If so, I would like to see that listed in the discussion page for any teacher who is removed from the list for the purpose of clarification. If the definition is up to us then I really think the country they teach in, or in the case of most of these guys, built organizations in, is more important than whether they are greencard holders or full citizens. FYI Both Ikeda Sensei and Saotome Sensei are naturalized US citizens but this is not frequently documented since nobody really cares. Transentient (talk) 15:03, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm re-adding Category:American aikidoka because it seems to be a much better category than Category:Japanese aikidoka. I have requested but not received, and looked for but been able to find, any WP guideline that states that these types of categories require documented proof of citizenship. Common sense indicates that the nation in which the person is noteworthy enough for a wikipedia article would be the nation into which category they belong. 64.214.53.2 (talk) 16:11, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Biography is Confused

[edit]

The biographical information is apparently about a leader in Japan during World War Two, who died in 1950. The text however is about someone who began study in 1968 and lives in Boulder, Colorado. Absent resurrection, it can't be the same guy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:246:D00:5AE0:A40D:A52E:C100:4A0E (talk) 14:03, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
