GA On Hold[edit]

This article is very comprehensive in its way but the coverage of it comprehensiveness is not very broad.

  • The vast majority of the article is about the formation and then architectural, real estate history of the school
  • The academic development of the school is not covered well. It starts with the original platform of the school, the academic evolution of the curriculum is not explained well at all. There is a big jump to the 21st century status.
  • Secondly, it mentioned changes in admissions procedure for blacks and females. What is the admissions procedure? Is there an entrance exam? Admission by pay? Has the selection criteria changed over the years as the school's philosophy has changed? The main article talks about the IB being introduced. This should be in the history article, in addition to other curriculum changes.
  • Are there ups and downs in the academic performance of the school? Were there glorious periods when the school dominated the academic examinations and sports leagues? Were there bad periods when performance went down or when there was student unrest in the school? How has the co-curricular evolved
  • The modern section is a bit POV. It cites one paper saying the school is very very good. However, the main Baltimore City College says that some national surveys ranked it 200+, so it seems that a wider array of ratings should be shown.
  • Also I think that the female admission controversy should be expanded if possible. If not it should be merged with the black admissions.
  • Sources
    • Some paragraphs are missing sources or only have sources for the first half of the them. Please fill these out
    • Where you use the same book many times, do not repeat the whole book over and over. Have a "Notes" section where the shorthand reference is used, and have a "REferences" section where the full book is listed. eg, see Arthur Morris

The article is in good shape, it just has some black holes. But judging by the coverage of the other parts, it is simply a matter of filling in, because the quality in what is already there is very good. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:02, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the verdict.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:22, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the enhancements. The article is really well rounded now. Good work.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:22, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixes needed[edit]

  • Please see WP:DASH and fix throughout. Did this guy *really* punctuate like this? The subject of chronic lamentation,—the Baltimore City College Building,—which for ... that's just wrong. yes he did write that way you can check it out Golem88991 19:22, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I just fixed another endash as a sample. Not done yet. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please see WP:MOS#Images.  Done
  • There's a missing footnote.  Done
  • Please review WP:LEAD.  Done IMO, the lead goes into too much detail.
  • Pls see WP:FN about how to employ named refs to eliminate repeats, for example:
    • ^ "The Top of the Class", Newsweek. Retrieved on May 22, 2007.
    • ^ "The Top of the Class", Newsweek. Retrieved on May 8, 2007.  Done different urls so renamed titles to conform with titles of articles.Golem88991 19:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:28, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also, the cite templates need some cleanup. Removing empty parameters makes the article less chunky and editing easier. Date parameters should be correctly wikified (see WP:MOSNUM). And there are some missing last accessdates. Month year combos are expressed as Month year, not 2007-05.  DoneSample edits. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:37, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also see WP:MOSBOLD, Originally the school was known simply as the "High School", since no other public secondary education existed in the city.  Done SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Some citations are missing information,  Done sample edit. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry to keep adding on :-) Incorrect bolding in the lead, see WP:MOSBOLD and WP:LEAD.  Done SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:45, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Do not worry about adding more comments, I appreciate the feedback on the article. Thanks, Golem88991 19:51, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I have removed the link from the boldface. But what would be the best way to link to the article about Baltimore City College in the lead? Golem88991 19:55, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • I don't know; that's really tricky. You have to find a way to work around those silly guidelines, by rewording. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:00, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • I made a suggestion; revert if you don't like it. I also made more sample edits to show the extent of the work still needed. In particular, a lot of attention to WP:MOSNUM issues is needed throughout. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:20, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
            • I believe that the WP:MOSNUM issues have largely been addressed at that point. That being said it is quiet possible that I missed a couple. Thanks again for your help. Golem88991 18:32, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting[edit]

I've gone through the article. Most of what I found was punctuation and fixing run-on sentences.

A of non-punctuation couple of issues:

1. Where are the references for the section about the curriculum changing to a single track? I graduated in the mid 1990s and there were distinct "A" and "B" courses, as well as AP classes. Plus, I remember reading an article on the Alumni Association wanting the school to devote more resources to the "A" course as opposed to IB, giving the impression that the "A" course was still in use at the school. The article gives the impression that it is not.

2. By what time/year did the Howard Street building become overcrowded? --WriterThesp77 18:54, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FA concerns[edit]

After reviewing this article for WP:URFA/2020, I am concerned that it does not meet the featured article criteria anymore. I have outlined some of my concerns below:

  • The lede is too long
  • The article does not mention events post-2008. It needs an update.
  • There is MOS:SANDWICH with the images in the "Reconstruction" section
  • Image captions are too long and need alt text

Is anyone interested in bringing this article back to FA standards? Z1720 (talk) 15:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
