Intro is too short. There needs to be some text, outside of the table. The table could possibly be split up by time periods (1800s, then by decade). It should be explained why storms can cause tornadoes. Records should not be in the table, rather in their own section. Hurricanehink 18:32, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not just US?

[edit]

Storm05 just added Florence's 1 tornado in Bermuda. Perhaps there should be a separate table for non-US tornadoes? Such a table would require a lot of sources, as there's not (at least to my knowledge) a database of tornadoes in other countries. Therefore, it has to be fairly good sources definitively saying it was a tornado. Hurricanehink (talk) 15:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the Florence tornado because the source didn't say it was a definite tornado. Hurricanehink (talk) 15:46, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Anywhere tropical cyclones impact land there are a fair number of tornadoes spawned. Japan and Mexico especially come in mind, but also China, India, Bangladesh, Australia, various islands and other areas incur events as well. There isn't an available database though; so I agree with required solid sourcing and including non-US events in a separate table. Interestingly, the second deadliest tornado in Japanese history in Kyushu in September 2006 was TC-related as far as I can tell.
I intend to update the US from 1991 when I dig up enough open (non-copyrighted) sources for it. Others are welcome to do so if they have authoritative (preferably exhaustive) sources. Evolauxia 22:06, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The National Climatic Data Center has a great tornado list back to 1993, but there's no centralized list of the tornadoes that were spawned by tropical cyclones (so you would have to look case-by-case). I found a great source I had a while back for U.S. tornadoes and Japan tornadoes, located here. It also has some good lede info, as well. Here's another link. Can you include tropical cyclone iggy tornadoes and cyclone cempaka tornadoes Alvaro ivan daniswara (talk) 04:24, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The large portion of this article is a listing of tropical cyclone-spawned tornadoes. Would anyone be opposed to a move? Hurricanehink (talk) 21:31, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I'll make the change. Pburka (talk) 23:40, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of tornadoes spawned by tropical cyclonesList of tropical cyclones spawning tornadoes – this is a list of tropical cyclones more than it is a list of tornadoes, and in that setting it works, but across the entire page there are only 5 notes for individual tornadoes, hardly quality enough to be a tornado list - there just aren't enough notable tornadoes spawned by cyclones to warrant their own list, but a list of cyclones spawning tornadoes is what's here and the article should be renamed as such GeorgeMemulous (talk) 16:57, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
