Dubious[edit]

There could not have been both a PRC ambassador and an ROC ambassador at the same time. Was this the ambassador to Israel? What were they attending? If anyone has access to the source cited, or even better, to a more reliable source, please check and correct. --PalaceGuard008 (Talk) 19:38, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, there is some ambiguity here. Fomally there are Taiwanese ROC ambassadors only in a few countries. Similarly there are formally speaking no ROC embassies in most counties (e.g., Israel). But there are representatives under other labels that functionally serve the same purposes; e.g., "Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv". Hence, The contested statement is most likely not about PRC ambassador vs ROC ambassador, but could well be about PRC ambassador vs ROC representative. So let us see when and where such an incident could have happened.

(1) Jan. 23, 2001, Jerusalem: Yad Vashem "recognition ceremony" for Ho ( "Father honored as Holocaust rescuer", http://archive.bangordailynews.com/2001/03/06/father-honored-as-holocaust-rescuer/ ). Pan Zhanlin, ambassador to the state of Israel from the People’s Republic of China, spoke, so was there. No mention of taiwanese attendance. This might be the event.

(2) February 19, 2004, Jerusalem: Boys Town Jerusalem held a ceremony awarding the late Dr. Ho with the prestigious Zwartendijk Award ( "Manli Ho, San Francisco, CA", http://www.boystownjerusalem.org/detail.php?id=360&section=news-event&name=Manli%20Ho,%20San%20Francisco,%20CA ). Here we read: " ... participants included ... the ambassador of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Chen Yonglong [in Israel]; ...". Another candidate event.

(3) September 28, 2007, Yiyang, Hunan Province, China: There was an Yad Vashem ceremnony for Righteous Among the Nations ( "Commemorative Citizenship of the State of Israel Bestowed upon Dr. Feng Shan Ho in Yiyang, China", http://www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/righteous/events/china.asp ). So there was no PRC Ambassador attending, of course.

There is no definite conclusion to draw from this, except that the statement: " ... the Communist Chinese ambassador attended the ceremony – and insisted that the ambassador from Taiwan be kept out ..." is literally most likely false -- there is no "ROC ambassador in Israel". But it it would not surprise me if the PRC embassy had requested that no ROC representative was to attend. That is, some humanitarian events during WWII are today generating diplomatic tension, as different stakeholders want to "monopolize" the goodwill that past events have generated.

I'm afraid this is false. A simple bing search gives the following news from Xinhua.net: [[1]] (in Chinese), in 2007. It stated he was the working for the "nationalist government" ("国民政府"). Apparently the PRC-controlled press made no effort in hiding the fact here.

Even this is true, unless this is pointed out by a reliable source, I'm still afraid it's borderline original research. Thus, I decide to remove the latter half for now. --Ahyangyi (talk) 14:39, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
