Current status (2009)

[edit]

Until there is enough viable proof, I'd like to suggest that the article should not be altered to state Hole currently is a band. Love's original annoucement (via NME's blog/July 2009's magazine) stated that Auf Der Maur had agreed to partake in the reunion, however Melissa has clearly denied this. - http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/jun/23/courtney-love-hole-reunion-questioned

Love's Twitter post (the "MY name, MY trademark" one) does imply that she has the rights to reform Hole and release Nobody's Daughter under the band name, however until there is some more evidence to suggest this, it should be stated that Hole was a band. Eric has also commented that no reunion can take place without his involvement.

I've added an "Apparent reunion" year under the "Years active" section in the infobox, and included "In 2009, Love announced she was reforming Hole with former Larrikin Love guitarist, Micko Larkin, however Erlandson has implied that contractually no reunion can take place without his involvement. The current status of the band is debateable" in the introduction. -- Idiotchalk (talk) 13:05, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'My Body The Hand Grenade' is considered a rarity

[edit]

I dispute the idea that 'My Body The Hand Grenade' is considered a rarity by Hole fans - it is not hard to get at all.

Well,I cant find it anywhere So awful 23:10, 9 October 2006 (UTC)So Awful[reply]

I looked in every store I know that stocks record, on Amazon and on HMV.co.uk and I couldn't find it. I can barely find 'Pretty On The Inside' where I live... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.139.171.139 (talkcontribs)

Possible spam

[edit]

This was triggering the spam filter, so I took it out of the main text: "An online petition was started by a member of the Kittyradio.com Message Boards to show Courtney's managment/record company executives that their is an desire for this type of item. Currently with 1000+ signatures, the petition can be viewed at [:www.petitiononline.com/hole/petition.html this location]."

I think it should be mentioned that some consider Hole to be a rip off of Babes in Toyland.--128.59.143.41 05:25, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why? --Manboobies 06:26, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Considering that Courtney Love used to be in Babes in Toyland, it's no surprise that there are some similarities between the two bands, but I wouldn't say Hole is a rip-off. Scientivore 06:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What happened on the 2nd of October 2003?

[edit]

I think the line "Courtney Love´s October 2, 2003 incident" should be changed or explained. This is-try to be- an encyclopedia not a fan site. I used to listen to Hole and know something about Love´s public affairs but I have no idea of what happened that day. 19:35, 5-June-2006, Rru

Pictures

[edit]

This article really needs some pictures. I'll get somethin with Courtney Love that already is uploaded on here, but we need pictures of the band altogether. If anyone has albums/EPs/singles, look for any pics of the band in the inserts. You can upload these (make sure you state that you scanned them from w/e insert) and tag it with the licence {{promophoto}}. Then integrate them into the article, it would improve it greatly. Cheers. -- Reaper X 20:18, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Hultsfred incident

[edit]

Why dont this article say about the sad accident under a Hole concert on the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden 1998, a female fan got killed? --Krakatowa 09:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lisa Roberts

[edit]

Lisa's name is being linked to an actress who is Julia Roberts' sister. Are you sure this is the same woman? Could be, but could someone verify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.54.114.30 (talk) 04:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no evidence to support the idea that they're the same person, what's more, it's very difficult to believe that the actress Lisa Roberts would have been a member of Hole. I'm removing these links. --Spacefem (talk) 02:55, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greatest Hits?

[edit]

Any info anywhere on the "Greatest Hits" to be released in 2008 that's listed in the mini-discography? I googled a bit and could not find a peep. Tarc 17:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where did you hear about this? Blackmorningsun 2:00, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Here; Hole (band)#Discography. I was asking if anyone could verify this. If not, it should probably e removed as unverifiable. Tarc 12:46, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

The intro reads to praisy. This is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not rock criticism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.88.252.221 (talk) 22:54, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree, it should be a descriptive overview, not an "in-the-favour-of" article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beautifulson (talkcontribs) 19:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2009 reform?

[edit]

Have they really reformed, Auf Der Maur isn't so sure- http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/jun/23/courtney-love-hole-reunion-questioned

Teatreez (talk) 19:45, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Her next album won't be by the name Hole http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2009/07/14/courtney_love_banned_from_using_hole_1 ScarTissueBloodBlister (talk) 16:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Therw will be no reunion, unless Eric becomes involved which isn't going to happen. In 2002, Love and Erlandson signed a contract which stated that no reunion can take place under the name Hole unless both are involved. I've cleaned up the article to coincide with this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Beautifulson (talkcontribs) 12:42, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should Micko Larkin be under the members list? He may be on Courtney Love's new album but not on any of Hole's albums.. ScarTissueBloodBlister (talk) 04:54, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've also cleaned up the intro paragraph to make it more clear. Also removed Micko Larkin and other details. No HOLE members except Eric and Courtney are mentioned in the intro, so figured we should keep this consistent. Edit-editor-editing (talk) 16:11, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Genres

[edit]

Why is "grunge" constantly being listed as Hole's genre? Hole had nothing to do with the grunge scene - other than Courtney being married to Kurt Cobain - and their music is not grunge at all. Their sound is basic alternative rock (as seen through all three albums), punk rock (as seen in Pretty On The Inside) and power-pop (as seen in both Live Through This and Celebrity Skin). I think we should list Hole's genre as: alternative rock, punk rock, powerpop. Idiotchalk (talk) 15:02, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They went through sound/style changes over the years, but grunge was certainly a major part of it. Tarc (talk) 16:38, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Songs like "Violet" have an extremely grungey level of sound, whether you like it or not. If Powerpop gets to be listed as one of the genre's, so should grunge. --124.185.41.165 (talk) 08:52, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Powerpop???? that's so NOT Hole's instrumental sound! they are definitevily a band with grunge roots. Look at some source like allmusic ---> http://allmusic.com/artist/hole-p13208 . You can find a thousand sources that support their grunge style of music... powerpop not --200.82.210.222 (talk) 04:17, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, powerpop. If you hadn't already noticed, powerpop — and pop music in general — is the central sound to Celebrity Skin and a number of songs on Nobody's Daughter. Seeing as punk rock (the central sound to Pretty on the Inside) and alternative rock (the central sound to Live Through This) are listed, why not powerpop? "Grunge", on the other hand, is not only too generalized, it's completely inaccurate. Granted, Hole have connections to the grunge movement and their sound is grunge-influenced, but as far as being a grunge band goes, Hole do not fit. Are you honestly saying that Pearl Jam and Hole are similar-sounding? Idiotchalk (talk) 01:04, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Grunge" was more of a style/aesthetic than a literal music genre, as no one band within the grouping really sounded much like another. It's like a base that provided different ways to go; punk (Nirvana, Mudhoney), metal (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden), classic/hard rock (Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees). Hole took grunge to the punk/riorgrrl direction, IMO. I agree with the "powerpop" designation though, the "when I wake up, in my makeup" era was totally that. Tarc (talk) 02:33, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hole is active

[edit]

Courtney Love has posted 20-30 new Hole logos on her Facebook/Twitter, there has been a show announced under the Hole name, the nobodysdaughter.com website has a small link in the left that says "Hole" and links to the new Hole Facebook. Courtney has also made it clear that she owns the rights to the Hole name. So whoever keeps changing back Hole to "Hole was a band" should stop. There's enough proof to show that she owns it and is using it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.194.115.84 (talk) 00:00, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As true as that is, there is still no official confirmation that see owns right to use the Hole name. "Hole is a band" and Nobody's Daughter being a Hole record should stay in the article seeing as currently this is true, though the years active section in the infobox, and "reunion" section in the main article should state "(Apparent reunion: 2009-present)" and "Discussions of reunion (2009-present)", respectively, until further confirmation. 87.232.59.17 (talk) 18:14, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notably awful show

[edit]

Does a single awful show warrant inclusion in an article. Read this review of their June 27, 2010 Washington, DC show and decide. Dharris (talk) 13:39, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Id say "maybe" if it were for some musician where such a thing is out of the ordinary. If you go to a Courtney show, this is almost expected. Tarc (talk) 14:01, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kristen Pfaff

[edit]

I'd question the following sentence- In June 1994, bassist Kristen Pfaff died of a heroin overdose in Seattle,[40] and the band put their impending tour on hold, pulling out of the upcoming Lollapalooza festival. As per "Hit So Hard" film and Pfaff's wikipedia article she had decided to leave Hole before committing suicide. The remaining members decided to 'go all out' rather staying unmotivated - the opposite of what the sentence implies.Jonpatterns (talk) 13:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Love's remorse for replacing Schemel

[edit]

The article states Love and Erlandson showed regret for replacing Schemel on the Celebrity Skin recording. However, I've not seen a reference for Love's remorse. She merely states Beinhorn isn't pleasant and 'that's how the industry works'. Further, she used Beinhorn again on 2010's nobodies daughter.Jonpatterns (talk) 13:42, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jill Emery

[edit]

The article lists Jill Emery as being a key member of Hole. Not entirely true. Jill Emery left shortly after the release of Pretty on the Inside and her tenure was plainly short. (2601:C6:8480:1F10:A9B2:5FBA:2AAE:E9E9 (talk) 08:31, 25 September 2021 (UTC))[reply]
