Name

Why was this moved to Shusai Honinbo? Honinbo is a title, not a name. Can 07:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed and fixed. In every English-language reference I've seen (including English-language go literature) the title comes first. --Zippy 05:28, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Similarly, Go Seigen, one of the greatest players ever, held Shusai in very low esteem. He even went so far to call him a "scoundrel" and a "villain" during a newspaper interview. Go Seigen accused Shusai of selling his prestigious Honinbo title for a large sum in order to build himself a magnificent house while failing to give any of the money back to the Go community.

This is from my 1999 Go Seigen interview, I see that the line giving me credit has been removed and instead "a newspaper" is given as the source. As Go Seigen might have said the exact same thing elsewhere a source needs to be given if the author actually has seen this anywhere in a newspaper. I actually have my doubts if such a source can be provided. The original article was for the magazine of the Dutch Go Association "go" and the article has since then been translated in various languages and also has been put on the net (mindzine, gobase etc.) pieter mioch

Hoju

[edit]

Is the name Tamura Hoju correct? The Japanese Wikipedia gives only 本因坊 秀哉(ほんいんぼう しゅうさい) and 田村保寿(やすひさ), and I can't find any results for Hoju from Japanese pages with Google. There are hits from English pages, but they could plausibly enough come from a misreading of Yasuhisa as Hoju. Unfortunately I don't have better resources for Go player names available. Can anyone verify the name from a reliable source? -- Coffee2theorems (talk) 22:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
