take it to talk if we need to "hammer" it out

That was awful. Well done. :)

It doesn't make any sense to me to have the clearing line be a square instead of a circle... you'd want the clear-line to be a constant distance away from the box. I've never heard of making the clear-line a square, but clearly this is one of those local differences. The problem becomes picking a "standard"? Clearly we need more hot box players to chime in on this... Bcordes 16:16, August 9, 2005 (UTC)

  • I live to please.  :) Must be a regional thing. It makes sense for me for both the inside and outside to be boxes, because you have 4 cones for each. Guessing the size of the outside circle based on corners of a square taxes the average player's mind far too much.  :) It does mean that clearing to the corners is a disadvantage. How do you do it with a circle? Just clear it out and say, looks good? Normally box is a small group of people, and not overly contentious, so I could see that working. • Yeah, pretty much, you have to guess on where the circle is, or just say "close enough". Or, as I said in the article, use the center circle of a soccer field. I asked a couple of my club team players last night and they said they've played it with a square outside box as well, so I'm willing to defer to popular experience. • Actually you can also play with just a clear line (i.e. you clear only to one side of the box). I think it might make sense to note this, as one of the advantages of the game is that you can play in irregular playing areas. Freeheel 16:43, April 16, 2007 (UTC)

      • Article looks great! I have no issues with the edits. Thanks for checking around. Wikibofh 17:53, August 10, 2005 (UTC)

no fouls[edit]

I don't know if this is regional, but I've never hear of "no fouls" in box... Themindset 19:12, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't know about "no fouls," but we certainly call the game more loosely, especially with respect to contact. I think it would be more accurate to say that fouls are called much less closely, than to say that certain types of fouls are not called. The "pickup hoops" analogy is a good one though. Preference for Ultimate[edit]

I take some issue with the statement that if you have a certain number of players, people would rather play Ultimate. It is true that if you get beyond 5 on 5 it becomes crowded. But my group always prefers box, mainly because of the 'pickup hoops' nature of calling fouls. (well that and because we just like Box better). Freeheel 16:43, April 16, 2007 (UTC)
