Notability[edit]

The copyvio issues on this article have been restored, but I am affraid it fails notability. If the NR / Historic Places claim cannot be verified I think this should be deleted. I have contacted the NPS / National Register directly because their database doesn't include this hotel (may be due to the age - says 1965 on the plaque). 7 01:15, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the database and the maps, and the property is inside the following Historic District: Historic Place Name: Vieux Carre Historic District Address: Bounded by the Mississippi River, Rampart and Canal Sts., and Esplanade Ave. City: New Orleans County: Orleans State: LOUISIANA NPS Reference Number: 66000377 Date Listed: 19661015

Since it is part of this District, the property is officially listed in the National Register.

Searching for a property is easy and can be retrieved by LOCATION and/or RESOURCE NAME (Locate "Vieux Carre" from the drop down menu).

The Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office (LA SHPO) has uploaded the information from their nomination forms to their online database. Unfortunately, the site does not enable the viewer to zoom in or out from the images. Additionally, instead of viewing a PDF version of the National Register nomination form, the viewer will see only see the textual information from the forms. Signatures from the SHPO Officer and the Keep of the National Register are not shown.

Hotel St. Pierre → Hotel St. Pierre (New Orleans) — per deletion discussion, Google returns more than one Hotel St. Pierre, and though the others might not pass Wikiepdia notability, they are still plausible search terms as at least one other appears high on Google (next link after the two New Orleans links from frenchquarterinns.com is for a hotel in the UK). St. Pierre (or Saint-Pierre) is a relatively common name for places in French, including hotels and inns.--137.122.49.102 (talk) 15:33, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose per WP:NOT, i.e., Wikipedia is not Google. There is no ambiguity at Wikipedia as there are no other Hotel St. Pierre articles or even any mention of such a hotel. Comment - that it is the only Hotel St. Pierre with a Wiki article for now does not seem sufficient to make it a primary topic. Arguably, Hotel Saint-Pierre in Paris is also notable and could easily have its own article, forcing a disambiguation of some sort. When I saw the deletion discussion my first instinct was to check which "St-Pierre" hotel it was, because, as I suspected, there are many of them, and it doesn't seem to me that the one in New Orleans is 1) the only one that is worth writing about; 2) the only one Wiki users are looking for in terms of encyclopedic information. That Google returns at least one other Hotel St. Pierre right away on a basic search is clear evidence that the notability of this one hotel does not outweigh that of the others combined.--137.122.49.102 (talk) 15:04, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe but there are no other so named hotels even mentioned in any Wikipedia article. And Wikipedia is not a crystal ball — we can't predict what articles will be created or what topics will be notable in the future. A parenthetical disambiguator is used to differentiate different articles within Wikipedia, not to reflect the relative weight of topics in Google. By all means, create some new Hotel St. Pierre articles if you wish and then revisit this issue. — AjaxSmack 01:41, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - per Wikipedia:Disambiguation. The concept of primary topic only comes into play when there are already multiple topics (articles) that share a name. As AjaxSmack said, per WP:CRYSTAL, we don't need to preemptively move this now to leave room for all the other similarly named Hotels to have articles written about them.
