Both '78 and '79, Oilers as wildcard team make it to AFC championship[edit]

This was part of the then new expanded format in which there was wildcard weekend and the two wildcard winners played each other. In both years, the Oilers won this game, won the divisional playoff the following weekend, and made it to the AFC championship, losing to the Steelers both years.

Now, in 1980 wildcard team the Oakland Raiders won the championship, winning Superbowl XV. But in the early 1980s, how many other teams did that or even made it to the AFC or NFC championships. And was there even one other team who went deep into the playoffs two years in a row, both years as a wildcard team? FriendlyRiverOtter (talk) 19:34, 14 February 2012 (UTC)ok[reply]

Merge with History of Titans[edit]

Since the "history" of the Oilers and the "history" of the Titans are actually the uninterrupted history of a single club, it makes sense to include them together in one article. Referring to the "History of the Oilers" seems like a roundabout way of wishing/pretending the team didn't rebrand itself as the Titans. --68.179.186.240 (talk) 06:07, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because this page currently only contains detailed prose of the team's history from 1960 to 1996 without any other content (such as the team's stats, players, uniforms, stadiums) that you would find in a normal sports team article like Manchester United F.C. or New York Giants. This is basically the same rationale as to why Brooklyn Dodgers currently redirects to History of the Brooklyn Dodgers, St. Louis Browns currently redirects to History of the St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators (1901–60) redirects to History of the Washington Senators (1901–60), Philadelphia Athletics redirects to History of the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Braves (baseball) redirects to History of the Boston Braves. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Infoboxes#Purpose of an infobox - "the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article" (emphasis added). In other words, content in the infobox does not count in this regard. Zzyzx11 (talk) 06:55, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
