Swing

[edit]

Maxwell had 1,574 votes on a turnout of almost double (at a local election), Lucas had 880 votes on a very low turn out a week away from a general election so the swing is -44.1%. The seat has not ever been held by anyone other than Labour so we must compare the results. 86.170.72.165 (talk) 23:20, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's not what Swing (politics) is. In every election article, the +/-% column refers to change in vote share since the last election. For example, Chorley (UK Parliament constituency). Furthermore, trying to compute swing from a multi-seat election to a single-seat by-election is difficult at best and foolish at worst, which is why swing wasn't calculated on this article for the 2016 by-election. If you can find anywhere where the +/-% column is calculated based on raw vote totals, you may have a precedent to computing it that way. 2600:1700:BB50:6830:10E7:91AE:3A1B:9ADB (talk) 01:07, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
