GA assessments[edit]

GA assessment[edit]

I quick failed it due to noticing the lack of citations in early years and entry into politics. Feel free to resubmit upon fixing this. Wizardman 01:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Comments:

  1. The image in the infobox needs a caption to contextualize it. If possible, it should include where and when it was taken ie. "Hsu Tain-tsair in city X on date Y"
  2. Rather than external linking terms in the body of the article (Taiwan Tribune, NATPA), you should put the links in an "External links" section at the bottom of the article (under the references) and either wikilink them or, if the organization doesn't have an article, then just leave them as text.
  3. The lead needs to conform to WP:LEAD. Specifically, it needs to summarize every major point in the main body of the article. Currently, for example, there is little, if anything, about his Early life mentioned in the lead.
  4. Some statements require citations. These are especially urgent since this is a biography of a living person:
The first paragraph of "Early years"
"In 1990, Hsu returned to Taiwan with the membership of North America Taiwanese Professors' Association (北美洲台灣人教授協會). With the influence of then-legislators Chen Shui-bian, Peng Pai-hsien (彭百顯), Hung Chi-chang (洪奇昌), and Lu Hsiou-yi (盧修一), the government relented and removed the restriction for Hsu to exit and enter the country, finally issuing him a new passport." (Early year)
Everything in "Entry into politics" that is not supported by the citation at the end of the paragraph
"expressing that the goal of the campaign is to reduce the use of disposable chopsticks by 100,000 pairs per day." (Tainan mayoralty)
The fourth paragraph of "Tainan mayoralty" which contains a direct quote from a living person, which pretty much screams out "cite me!"
"He participated in the "UN for Taiwan" rally on September 15, 2007." (Tainan mayoralty)
  5. The foreign names of things should be removed from the article, as they survive little, if any, purpose and are very distracting.
  6. The article doesn't strike me as being very neutral. For example, the source that is cited for the "Entry into politics" section is about the party's opposition to his election, yet that is not even mentioned in the section. The whole article is fairly glowing, which may just mean that he was a really good mayor, but the point above raises some questions about neutrality.

Overall, there are just far too many BLP concerns to allow me to pass this article, or even put it on hold. I suggest reading over WP:BLP and some rigorous effort expended on making sure that this article abides by the standards before this article is resubmitted. If you feel that this review is in error, you may take it to WP:GAR. Thank you for your work thus far. Cheers, CP 01:54, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The source for the "Entry in politics" section is not about the party's opposition to his election, but to George Chang's. I think this article will be all set to be reassessed after I go over WP:BLP. Thanks for the suggestions!--Jerry 02:22, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This really hasn't moved much since the last GA attempt, my main points of contention are the lack of references for large chunks (refs are given at the end of paragraphs but they do not cover the whole section) and the whole article being very positive towards him. Not I don't know much about him but he is a politician and there are always negative things to say about politicians. I also have to say it seems very thin on the ground, is this all of it? If this is all he has done I'm not sure why there is such concentration on this article, you seem overly keen on it despite its nature. The other issues seem to have been dealt with though, it should get to GA at some point after some further development. Also on a small side point though, you might also consider using Template:Languageicon on the refs and ex.links. - J Logan t: 20:08, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Early Years section[edit]

I think this one needs a bit more work to get it up to Good Article standards. All the information is there, but it's a bit choppy - it reads more like a resume than a nicely-flowing paragraph. I'll try to rearrange it as best I can, but maybe you could also take a look, Jerry. FolicAcid 13:17, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice, I'll try my best.--Jerry 21:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Hsu Tain-tsair/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Hello. I'll be performing the GA review for this article. I see it has had several reviews before, and a lot of the issues brought up by other reviewers have been addressed. With that said, here are some more suggestions for improvement:

  • For the references in a foreign language, add the |language=example| into the reference template parameter. Obviously, exchange the word example for the appropriate language.
  • Along those same lines, add Template:Languageicon to the external links that aren't in English.
  • Per WP:LEAD, an article of this size should be two or three full paragraphs summarizing all the main points of the article. In the least, I think more from the mayoralty section should be added in.
  • "which is one of the top senior high schools in Taipei" - this particular part of the first paragraph in the early years isn't covered in the reference. It needs a ref of its own, or it can just be removed.
  • "which created business opportunities and tourism revenue." - source?
  • "Nearly 80 percent of the city's residents approved of the efforts of Hsu and his administration in turning the southern city into a clean and beautiful metropolitan area." - that claim most definitely needs a citation. I checked #18 and #19, but neither had that info.
  • Can the tables in the Electoral history be made into two columns? It would eliminate all that extra white space.
  • The article could also use a really good copyedit. I'd be happy to do that if everything else gets taken care of.

The article will be on hold for seven days to allow for improvements. Good luck. Nikki311 02:09, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
