IMPORTANT: I have heard that Japenese people have shorter floating rib which is why they have shorter hieghts? this is a question to everyone and please find this out and try your best to answer it here. What is up with the Prime numbers in nature article where it says that 'Mongoloid' children have 13 pairs of ribs? There, Mongoloid links to an article on Asian or Oriental human phenotype, but references Mongoloid as a deprecated and offensive reference to Down Syndrome. Should this be cleaned up, and should there be some reference to the situation on this page?

Vandalism

[edit]

Someone came on here and replaced a whole block of text in the begining with silly non-sense like "Patrick Thorne only has three ribs because he is awesome." or something like that so I reverted the edit and posted a Vandalism Warning 2 in his user page.

Eve's extra rib

[edit]

Anyone else think a mention of the myth that all women have an extra set of ribs should be added? I find this to be a very, VERY common urban legend and there is no direct contridiction of it here. I think a small mention near the bottom contridicting this myth would be educational. If no one objects I'll ad it in a week or so. Lando242 17:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Under the general heading 'Ribs', it states Humans (both male and female) have 24 ribs (12 sets). This was noted by the Flemish anatomist Vesalius in 1543 setting off a wave of controversy. I'd say that line belongs under Human rib cage and doesn't belong under Ribs... Jason F

Finally got around adding to this article . Decided to just go with the info from the "Ribs" article but added a source to go along with it (which I also added to the ribs article) and put an external link to "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" tranlation.Lando242 10:27, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it needs a HUGE refutation in the article. I just had a teenager refuse to talk to me anymore, because I suggested counting her ribs, was an experiment she could perform by herself in the bathroom mirror, and she was afraid the reality would contradict her faith! 71.233.230.223 03:54, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article sucks

[edit]

"Due to their elasticity they allow movement during inspiration and expiration. "

That error above is just one of many errors on this page. The entire page needs to be reconstructed, badly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.220.200.182 (talk) 23:18, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rid regrowth myth

[edit]

Has anyone heard this myth about ribs being able to regrow is the surrounding tissue is intact. Anyone got any info on it? 87.194.30.174 (talk) 23:27, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Human Spare ribs?

[edit]

At the bottom of the page, there is a picture with the following text: "Side view of human rib cage. Seen are the 5-12 spareribs under lean muscle.--Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 15:55, 9 March 2009 (UTC)"[reply]

Error in the 3rd Image

[edit]

In the third image, "Surface projections of the organs of the trunk," there seems to be an error in the great arteries branching off the aorta. The image depicts two brachiocephalic arteries branching off the aorta on both sides, which then branch into the subclavians arteries and common carotids. I believe this is incorrect - there should only be one brachiocephalic trunk on the right, and the L common carotid and L subclavian arteries should branch directly off the aorta. I am currently learning anatomy, so please correct me if I am wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nina wicks (talkcontribs) 04:50, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, for the most part. That configuaration is a variant arch form[1] which makes the use of this image less than ideal.Novangelis (talk) 18:48, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for noticing it! I've replied at File talk:Surface projections of the organs of the trunk.png. Mikael Häggström (talk) 04:26, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

I have proposed merging from a number of pages to this page, including:

I have proposed this because: --LT910001 (talk) 07:02, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  1. This unnecessarily fragments information about ribs, which could be displayed in high-quality on a single page rather than low-quality on this diaspora of individual pages.
  2. Displaying this information on separate pages impacts on overall readability and quality. It leads to significant duplication, means that these articles, by virtue of being separate, do not receive as much attention as they otherwise would, and is unnecessary.
  3. By presenting these in a single article, the overall quality of the information and readability would be improved.
  4. These articles could, if necessary, be re-expanded at a later date.

Thanks, I have completed the merge of articles about individual ribs. --LT910001 (talk) 00:36, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
