Due to the widespread damage, I think the lede would be better formatted as the first paragraph (record, placement in season, and MH) and second (all impact).
"In Louisiana, tides caused minor coastal flooding." - tides happen all the time. Surely, "high tides"?
"8,950 homes were destroyed and damaged about 55,650 others" - bad grammar
"which observed sustained winds of 161 mph (259 km/h) and gusts as high as 180 mph (290 km/h)" - you might want to clarify here how this is possible, since sustained winds of 161 mph would be Category 5
"In Corpus Christi, about one-third of houses suffered severe damage or were destroyed. Additionally, about 90% of the buildings in downtown were damaged to some degree." - these could be merged
"at 20 and 25 mph (32 and 40 km/h)" - "and"?

Any more preps? Did the fact that the hurricane intensified unexpectedly affect anything?
"Celia caused 27 fatalities, four in Cuba, eight in Florida and 15 in Texas and left $930 million in damages" - you might want a dash or something when giving the breakdown for deaths, and they should be consistent whether they're spelled out or not (that is more important than the rule of spelling out less than 10)
"Corpus Christi, Texas suffered the worst impact, with at least 85% of all the structures in the city damaged, with 90% of downtown buildings were damaged or destroyed." - don't say "with" twice in the same sentence
Check for more Cuba impact with a more general search term, like July or August 1970 Cuba flood
Why the "about" in "About 252 small businesses, 331 boats, and 310 farm buildings"? These are all pretty specific numbers
Ref 10 does not cover most of the info for the first Texas paragraph

The first paragraph of Texas impact just seems really disorganized. Could you decide what sort of structure you wanna do? Like, the 170 mph gusts should be mentioned when you mentioned the downbursts
No HPC rainfall map?

"The storm damage some homes and 15% of crops in Austwell" - k....? Past tense of damage, and merge with the subsequent sentence.

Thus, the reported wind speeds of 85–90 mph (137–145 km/h) were considered "doubtful". - I don't get this. If it's important, find a way to make it two sentences, and organize it better.
Why don't you just have a paragraph for tornadoes in Texas?
"An estimated $50,000 was inflected to property in Eagle Pass." - is this notable enough to even warrant mentioning? Seems kinda trivial, given the overall damage total of $930 million

You mention a lot of crop damage in dollar amounts, but you don't give any examples. Nothing in newspapers or anything?

"The heaviest rainfall totals observed from the storm also fell in Nueces County, with 7.26 inches (184 mm) of precipitation reported in Robstown." - err, ref?
I get why you have "Nueces County" as a sub-sub section, but the effects were similar in Corpus Christi to other places in Texas, notably the strong winds.
"The University of Corpus Christi, a private institution located on Ward Island, suffered so much damage that it could not afford to rebuild, and was sold to the State in 1973." - OK, I'm getting concerned now. The Storm Data ref you have here was from 1970, so how could it include the info that it was sold in 1973?

"Overall, 74% of property losses associated with Celia was in Nueces County." is in direct contradiction with "85% of the total property damage caused by the storm occurred in Corpus Christi". Corpus Christi is in that county, but it's also in other counties, but the section implies that it's only referring to Neuces County. So how could the overall percentage of property damage in the city be less than the overall property damage than the county that the city is in? Or is the 85% for Corpus Christi including the portions that are in other counties? Sloppy work here.
You devote almost an entire paragraph to Corpus Christi, which was 85% damaged, but Port Aransas, which was 75% damaged, just has one sentence. I get that it's a smaller town, but if it was that badly damaged, where is the info?
Why don't you mention Celia's later history, per here?
What is the significance of any of the links in "See also"? Two are dabs, and one was mentioned previously.
How much federal assistance did Texas ultimately get? Was there ever rebuilding?

In all, the article isn't in terrible shape, but it could use a lot of work. Sorry, but I have to fail it. Try doing some more research, too. It largely seems to depend on Storm Data, but I'm sure there is more info, such as stuff from USGS, US Army Corps, Google scholar, etc. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:14, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
