  1. On the next day, it rapidly strengthened to a hurricane, and it turned north. Sounds a little awkward, could just be "The next day, it rapidly strengthened into a hurricane and turned north."
  2. strengthening to attain winds which correspond to a modern-day major hurricane. Give a brief explanation of what a major hurricane is
