The result of the proposal was PAGE MOVED per rationale below. As noted below, this article is not about the CDP of Hutchinson Island South, Florida, but about the island itself. -GTBacchus(talk) 03:53, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's Rationale: There is no need to have Florida in the title. There is no other island by this name. There have been intervening redirects and an administrator's approval is necessary for this move. clariosophic (talk) 16:38, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Hutchinson Island, Florida is not a C.D.P. It contains one CDP, Hutchinson Island South, Florida, which occupies the southern part part of the St. Lucie County portion of the island, but it is actually in the middle of the island. The northern part of the St. Lucie County portion is part of the city of Fort Pierce, Florida, which is centered on the mainland to the west. The Martin County portion is all unincorporated. clariosophic (talk) 14:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC) clariosophic (talk) 21:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hutchinson Island/North Hutchinson Island/Orchid Island

[edit]

"It is bounded on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the St. Lucie Inlet, on the west by the Indian River, and on the north by the Fort Pierce Inlet, which separates it from what is known in St Lucie County as North Hutchinson Island, or sometimes "North Beach." North Hutchinson Island extends into Indian River County, but it is rarely called that north of the county line. In fact the Indian River county portion which extends to the Sebastian Inlet is usually called Orchid Island, although it is not a separate island."

The names of these islands comes from the fact that the original St. Lucie Inlet was north of its present location, near Pepper Park in St. Lucie County. After the original inlet that separated Hutchinson Island from Orchid Island filled in, a new inlet was created farther south. This new inlet separated Hutchinson Island into a new North Hutchinson Island North of the new inlet, and the remaining island South of the new inlet which was still called Hutchinson Island.

The Orchid Island name extends through Indian River County into St. Lucie County to the old inlet, from the old inlet South to the new inlet the name North Hutchinson Island is correct, South of the new inlet Hutchinson Island is the correct name.

The confusion exists because unless you know the history and where to look for the old inlet, you will miss it. The old inlet has been filled in and looks like the island to the North and South of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.8.112.144 (talk) 13:19, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bathtub Beach

[edit]

This article needs a link to [Bathtub Beach], which needs it's own particle, which needs a link to Sabellaria alveolata FX (talk) 09:52, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

South Hutchinson Island

[edit]

The northern part of the Island is in St Lucie County and the inhabitants receive their mail through Fort Pierce (34949). The closest town is Fort Pierce, which is larger than Stuart, Jensen Beach and Vero Beach. 104.203.215.72 (talk) 12:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
