Proposed merge with Junhoe, Yunhyeong, Jinhwan

WP: TOOSOON they do not have notability individually, only notable as members of Ikon Asdklf; (talk) 16:44, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Merge, yes I support the merge. Unlike B.I and Bobby, the other members have neither released a record of their own nor have been featured in another artist's record. They do not pass the criteria of individual notability yet. Same was done for the members of Red Velvet, only Wendy Son's article wasn't merged because she had released a single even before group's debut. FudgeFury(talk|sign|contribs) 17:45, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
Or we can create a list like List of Exo members or List of Got7 members FudgeFury(talk|sign|contribs) 17:49, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Okay I just went ahead and merged them, as suggested by @FudgeFury:, into List of iKON members. This will probably be controversial because obviously a lot of work had gone into the creation of each of those pages, but each had very little to do with the actual person themselves and a lot of information on the process of creating iKON, through Team B and the voting, not to mention the indisputable lack of individual information we have about each member. Because of these factors I was bold. Asdklf; (talk) 18:26, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

  • They would have been deleted/merged at AfD anyway. The source material is all still there so when they warrant individual articles, they're ready-made. @Asdklf;: dont forget to do Step #8 on WP:SMERGE to ensure the edit history is preserved. CrowCaw 23:46, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Member table and excessive information

Please do not re-add a members table, nor add unencylopedic information like birthdays and ages for individual members. That doesn't belong on group pages. Take a look at any band outside of kpop - that information is not there. For individuals who are notable, such information belongs on their own biographical articles (if a reliable source is present). If you want to add more information about the members, take the list, put it in prose, and add verifiable, sourced, non-trivial biographical information about each person. That is the real goal of a biography, after all - Not tables and lists with trivia. Thank you. :) Shinyang-i (talk) 11:34, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Unreliable Sources

Besides from the large sections of this article in need of further sourcing there is a problem with some of the sources currently being used. I added the template to the page to draw notice to the issue. First off, Soompi and Allkpop are outright considered not credible. This is because both have pages on their sites saying they do not guarantee the information they report is factual. This makes them gossip blogs and not actual sources of news. The only exception for which a kpop article can source these sites is for reporting real life Award Show Wins such as the MAMAs. There is also the problem with repetitive use of YGlife. I'm not saying they are a bad source just that they are not impartial and it is always best to diversify sources when you can. Certain articles from them would be better if sourced from some where else. For example: "iKON’s Debut Concert “SHOWTIME” was a Huge Success and Captured Hearts of 13,000 Fans" finding another source for this article would strengthen it's credibility. Thank you for reading. Peachywink (talk) 22:44, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Do not copy and paste source templates

Please try to add sources only using the templates bar in the page edit window. Because when you copy and past sources, and then edit them to fit the new source, you are more likely to make careless mistakes that aren't immediately noticeable but can damage a pages credibility. There are lots of different problems with the sources on this page but for a clear example of a copy and paste error see source 39. It might look initially okay but the citation say's it was retrieved 3 days before the article was actually written. Please just be careful in the future with these things. Peachywink (talk) 20:23, 15 October 2015 (UTC)

the dimension video statement

The sentence along with it's two sources were just confirming that the video was a thing that happened and it exists. Neither said if dimension was important, if it was newsworthy or notable, and seeing as the video has under a million views on YouTube it probably isn't. If it's not notable and it doesn't contribute to the history of the group in some way then it shouldn't be mentioned in the article. Peachywink (talk) 18:16, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

What the heck is this page?

So while moving the reference section into column I noticed for the first time this: main article >> iKON activity

What is this page? It clearly doesn't go in the references but it also is just really unexplainable, I don't know where I would put a link to this page because it seems to span multiple catagories of information. I might submit it for deletion or merge. I'm not sure yet. Anyone else ever seen a page like this?Peachywink (talk) 18:15, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

IKON (South Korean band)IKon (South Korean band)WP:BANDNAME says "Capitalization of band names should be consistent with the guidelines for trademarks." After reading MOS:TMRULES, I think this page should move to IKon, which will display as iKon with Template:lowercase title. iKON is a stylized version of "icon" and is pronounced like the word. Even though iKON is used most of the time, iKon is still sometimes used by reliable sources: [1], [2], [3]. It is common for K-pop groups to have very stylized names, but this isn't reflected in their Wikipedia article titles (e.g. Big Bang rather than BIGBANG). • Support per MOS:TM: The exception is trademarks that begin with a one-letter lowercase prefix pronounced as a separate letter. These are often not capitalized if the second letter is capitalized, but should otherwise follow normal capitalization rules. SSTflyer 07:29, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Proposed Edit

I had changed the members section a few days ago (this is what I changed). I changed it because in other Korean boy groups it shows what positions the members have in their group and when the pages don't show it it's hard for people who want to know more about them since most of the that have info on them are in Korean. So I thought it would be a good idea to add their positions in the group. Then it was changed to this on account of the fact that "we don't do this for non-kpop bands". After seeing that edit I got a bit irritated and tried to undo the change but then the change was undone because there was a no reverting or undoing rule that I had not know about. I was told to propose my edit in the talk section so that's why I'm here.

I find it idiotic that my edit was changed based on the fact that "we don't do this for non-kpop bands" mostly because of the fact that iKON is a K-pop band. The user that changed my edit didn't even take away what I had put they took away what was originally there so I was confused as to what they were even on about. We don't put the birthdays and real names of members in non-Kpop bands or we don't put the positions for non-Kpop bands? I couldn't make sense of it. Korean pop groups often have members that don't have their own Wiki page and it's hard for people looking to find information in them if the don't have a Wiki page. I don't see a problem with them having their positions + birthdays + real names and stage names. It helps you know who is who. A lot of other K-pop groups have the members positions on their page and unless you are going to find and change every single on of them because "we don't do this for non-kpop bands" then don't change my edit.

Currently the IKon (South Korean band) page only shows the members' real names, their names in korean, and their stage names. I propose we change it back to the way I had edited it or at least the way it was before I edited it.

Also please excuse me since I was a bit irritated writing this

--Suesie69 (talk) 18:39, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

First of all you need reliable sources to back up your request, otherwise it's useless. I checked out the source you have added and it is obviously not a reliable source, I would have removed it as well. We can't use random blogs, fansites or anything like that. Also "a lot of other K-pop groups have the members positions" is not an argument because most of these articles are lacking reliable sources and are usually edited by fans with using sites like allkpop or soompi as sources. Overall K-pop articles lack reliable sources it's nothing new, it is a known problem. Positions are in my opinion ridiculous to begin with, the group has two rappers as far as I can see and the rest sings so they are vocalists it's simple. If you can find a reliable source you can add it of course, it's just my opinion because stuff like "he is the main vocalist, he has the most lines" is something that interests fans but it isn't relevant for a wikipedia article. If you wish to improve the article to meet wikipedia guidelines you have to learn to distinguish between what is important and what isn't.--Thebestwinter (talk) 20:26, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

If you didn't notice I proposed two changes. One was to change it back to the way I wanted it and the other was to change it back to how it was before I changed it. Which would be with just their stage names, real names, Korean names, and their birthdays. Also positions even if you see them as ridiculous are a thing that is very relevant to Korean pop bands and their fans so I actually disagree and think it should be in the wiki article. Just because american bands don't do it doesn't mean you should write it off if you think it is irrelevant. There is not just "two rappers" there is a leader, a main rapper, a lead rapper, a lead vocalist, a main vocalist, and so on. If you can't get it you don't need to just leave it alone. Again don't just write it off because you think it to be irrelevant. --Suesie69 (talk) 06:06, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Positions aren't relevant because they aren't encyclopedic. Most kpop groups aren't an instrumental band and don't have fixed positions like a sports team. While most groups are usually formed with a variety of talents, there is little consensus on who is main or lead and so forth. The fact that the fans cannot agree is good sign it's just trivial. You do need reliable sources for all inclusions, fan pages are not. Evaders99 (talk) 07:41, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

All opinions aside, my second suggestion is still being disregarded. I suggested to change it back to the way it was before I changed it. Also even with all this talk about positions being irrelevant and everything for some reason the positions are still shown on the page and the important things like their real names and birthdays are not. I came to this talk page so that the members situation could be figured out and everyone so far rejected having the positions there, okay I'm not mad it's just a difference in opinion which is fine because it was just a suggestion. Although it is irritating that I'm being told positions don't make sense and it's something for fans but that is the only thing on the members section along with the stage names- if I recall correctly. The only reason I suggested it in the first place is because it is hard to find info on iKON and it would just help people who want to get to know them without searching far and wide for something that isn't in Korean, but people disagree which is fine. Just fix the members section, no one had a problem showing their real names, stage names, birthdays, etc. right? So just change it back to that because what is shown now is a mess. --Suesie69 (talk) 17:54, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Please change the name of the band properly to iKON. It's not just "stylized" as iKON but the name IS iKON. Other acceptable way of writing is ikon, NOT iKon or Ikon. For evidence, the member of the band itself, Kim Jinhwan, has expressed disappointment when an MC of a show they were in wrote their band name as iKon. A link to an article about it. [6]. Same as all the answers above. Wikipedia does not use such stylizations. MOS:TMRULES Evaders99 (talk) 07:20, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Name of group is stylized incorrectly

Throughout this article, please change the lettering of this group's name to its proper form: iKON [1]

Also, the group's fanbase is named iKONIC. (Don't know why Cite didn't work again, but this fact is verified on the same site as above, then by clicking the first icon under the phrase: More about iKON @ )

Note: Fanbases/fanclubs are an important part of the k-pop industry, so it should rightly be noted here as well.

Thank you for your kind attention to this correction.

@Noschmidt: Their fandom name is irrelevant trivia, there's nothing notable about it. As for the styling, this has been brought up multiple times and the answer remains the same; it will not be changed. Wikipedia does not use styling throughout articles, it is mentioned in the lead section and that is it. See MOS:TMRULES for more information. literally all four threads on this current page are the same thing. Alex (talk) 10:16, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
