Jonathan Collier Link is Wrong[edit]

If you click on Jonathan Collier, it takes you to the page for the creator of Family Guy who happens to have the same name. I don't know if that's joke or real but I wanted to bring it up. (LukeAtmiaz, 21 September 2007 (UTC))

Merge[edit]

I think this IMG Soccer Academy article needs to be merged with the IMG Academies article for the following reasons:

  • IMG Academies features a section dedicated to IMG Soccer
  • Current article features very little actual info, contains mostly lists which don't have much encyclopedic value

IMG Soccer Academy, located on the Campus of IMG Academies LLC in Bradenton, FL, is a "for profit" business entity which trains soccer players for a price. It is one of several academies under the IMG LLC "corporate" structure just like the David Ledbetter Golf Academy or the Bolitteri Tennis Academy, Baseball Academy, Basketball Academy, Referee Academy .... They take all comers, boys and girls, from about age 10 to 19 who can pay the fee. The price for a full year of training is about $30,000.00 for all retail options including training, sports medicine, competition, room and board. School is separate (cost is in addition to the fee associated with each sports academy) and one may choose from any number of local public or private schools including Bayshore Senior High School, Bradenton Prep, St. Stephens Prep, or the Pendleton School which is affiliated with IMG LLC and is located on the main IMG Campus. Teams are formed in age related groups and most teams compete in local leagues under the oversight of FL Youth Soccer Association(FYSA). FYSA is governed by and answers to the US Soccer Federation USSF). Soccer Academy also operates retail soccer camps each summer for those players who are unable to attend the academy year round.

The relationship between IMG Academies LLC and US Soccer Federations U17 National Team Residency Program is one of Landlord and tenant. There is no relationship between IMG Soccer Academy and US Soccer Federation U17 National Team Residency Program. The two organizations happen to reside on the same campus. They maintain separate administrative offices and the two coaching staffs are distinctly separate. The IMG LLC leases training facilities, strength and fitness facilities, sports psycologists and provides meals under a lease agreement to US Soccer Federations U17 National Team Residency Program. Soccer Academy uses the same facilities and staff available to US Soccer Federations U17 National Team Program, just not at the same time. US National team Residency players are entirely subsidized by donations to the US Soccer Federation, including their education. In fact the US 17 National Team is continuously on the go participating in training and competitions across the US and abroad. They travel constantly!

US Soccer Federation (headquarters in Chicago,IL)is empowered by the US Olympic Committee as the National Governing Organization (NGO)in charge of overseeing player identification, acquisition, training and team competions for youth soccer players in the US up to and including the full US Mens and Womens National Teams. As the NGO for soccer, the USSF is responsible for the administration and oversight of the US Soccer Program and is accountable to the US Olympic Committee and to Fédération Internationale de Football Association FIFA. The USSF conducts trials and sponsors tournaments in addition supervising state and Regional Olympic Development Programs and operates its own coaching network, coaching education and licensing programs.

There is talk of moving the U17 Residency Program to Carson, CA where several of the other US Men's and Women's National Teams of various age groups have their headquarters. However, this is the current architecture of USSF and IMG Academies LLC. 71.99.100.239 21:58, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AFD result[edit]

The individual classes listed on this page were nominated for deletion on 20 December, 2005. The result of the debate was to merge them all here, so I did. --Angr (t·c) 18:34, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

IMG vs Bradenton Academy[edit]

There is a large difference between IMG and Bradenton Academy. Bradenton Academy is a academic school where as IMG itself is the sport training facility. A majority of the players that you have listed may have graduated from IMG Academies for thier professinal careers, as far as thier educational traingin goes, some graduated from Bradenton Academy, Saint Stephens and later on graduated from Edison Academy Center, i.e Freddy Adu. If these two entries could be un-merged it would clarify exactly where IMG and Bradenton Academy are concerned. The reason that I know this is that I graduated from Bradenton Academy with Landon Donavan and Alex Yi, I did not attend IMG Academies.

      • New Addition 11/01/2006

This is correct, "Bradenton Academy" educated the majority of the listed players. IMG only had on camps facilities for a brief time (believe 2004-2006) not sure after that other than on-line.

"Bradenton Academy" still is educating many IMG students. They have receintly changed their name to Bradenton Preparatory Academy. I believe this should be the link to the ref: "Bradenton Academy"
