Decision to merge[edit]

I've just discovered a small group of articles about IMSA GT classes. What they all have in common is their questionable quality. Many of these are unsourced, especially the list of cars itself. Some have dubious sources (Car Throttle). Some are a progression from one class into another (GTS was formerly GTO as also was GTX). For them to stand out as their article, they all will need a lot of work. SpacedFarmer (talk) 19:46, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Good idea to merge. Dubious quality at best. scope_creepTalk 17:43, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Agree with the proposer. --John B123 (talk) 07:58, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I have reverted the BLARs of some of the articles subjected to this discussion (which aren't listed here for some reason, but the merge templates linked here). The articles in question are Grand Touring Experimental, All American Grand Touring, Grand Touring Over, Grand Touring Under, Grand Touring Supreme, All American Grand Touring and American Challenge. IMSA GTP also has such a template linking to this discussion. A7V2 (talk) 00:21, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strongly oppose merging IMSA GTP as this class was clearly independently notable. I support merging the others as proposed (into some artcle called List of IMSA GT classes or similar), though I am apprehensive about redirects as generic as American Challenge! I merged it because having read it, I thought those articles are nothing but upper BS like the article creator's articles. They were of piss poor qualities that nothing was worth saving. Not enough to make an article or worthy of one. The GTP article was a copy of the main article, nothing about the rules progression that would had helped (there is a book that talks about a season by season rule progression). GTX was a progression of AAGT, in turn progredded into gtp, hence why they should merge. Also, GTS was GTO with a new name, 'Supreme' was named after the title sponsor's subbrand of fuel as I learned from the internet. There were no noticable technical difference. Did the article mention that? And the sources are minimal too. Editors should consider cleaning it up and make it worthy of an article, not revert a bunch of low quality jobs that plaque Wikipedia, especially article about cars and motorsports. This is why I say merge into list of IMSA GT classes. SpacedFarmer (talk) 15:53, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What did you merge? If everyone agrees to merge them into an article called List of IMSA GT classes, then wouldn't the correct action be to create such an article (presumably with just a brief description of each class), rather than to BLAR them to a page that doesn't discuss them (well in fairness, GTO and GTU are discussed in IMSA GT Championship#Initial divisions)? I restored them as it is inappropriate to perform the action while they are being discussed, not because I think they are all suitable as articles. A7V2 (talk) 22:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - List with a description/information about each. Easier for readers in addition to better content.--Tbennert (talk) 04:16, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
