The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park has been renamed iSimangaliso Wetland Park and will come into effect from 1 November 2007.--Jcw69 11:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it true that the park is sponsored by Apple (as in iPod, iPad, iMac)? My friend from South Africa indicated this is the caseHvatum (talk) 14:49, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

HI I don't want to do anything before seeing if there is a consensus ... but why is the title of this page "iSimangaliso Wetland Park"? Wikipedia states that English (not Zulu) must be used whenever possible, which is possible here. On top of that the name "Greater St Lucia Wetland Park" is by far the most well known (142 000 vs. 11 600 on Google), both among local and international populations. Finally this name is still the one preferred by cartographers: I was not able to find even one map using the new title. Any opposition? ChrisDHDR 13:13, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't support a move. iSimangaliso Wetland Park is not a Zulu translation for Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. It is the official name of the park, Greater St Lucia Wetland Park does not exist anymore. In exactly the same way that Transvaal was replaced by Gauteng and Mpumalanga. I agree that Greater St Lucia Wetland Park is currently still more commonly used, but one has to remember that the name was only changed 11 months ago. Things like that take time, just because the name changes does not automatically change all the occurrences of that name wherever it has been used before. With more than 20 years of internet content, the fact that more than 8% of web occurrences (as per your google numbers) have changed to the new name after just 11 months suggest that the name is definitely here to stay. Maps will take a bit longer to be updated due to the amount of work involved, google images does however return some maps with the new name already. The 142000 hits for Greater St Lucia Wetland Park does of course include most of the 11 600 hits for iSimangaliso Wetland Park since most of the pages that use the new name also state previously known as Greater St Lucia Wetland Park or something to that effect. --NJR_ZA (talk) 20:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
