Removal of proposed deletion template

[edit]

Shortly after I created this article, it was marked for deletion because "no good sources supported its notability". I've removed the template. The article is already sourced (admittedly only one source, but a solid one and a good start), and to me the poetic tradition of an entire country seems perfectly notable, certainly more notable than just one poet or one poem, and there are plenty of articles on those. Wikipedia suffers from Eurocentrism, where articles on topics typically of importance in Western countries are assumed to be notable, but where articles of importance in an African country like this one - especially when the topic isn't known to Western readers - requires more "proof" of its importance. The trouble is topics in developing countries are generally less well documented, and mainly documented by Western researchers with inherent cultural bias, so we as editors need to be flexible on the standards of sourcing for these topics if doing so will allow more of them to be added to offset this systemic Eurocentric bias. - Lemurbaby (talk) 01:12, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
