Economic boom and crisis: Please amend the flawed tabloid phrase "convicted p_________" to "convicted child sex offender". Paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder, not a criminal act of which one can be convicted. Thanks. 151.229.26.18 (talk) 03:39, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Ambiguous explanation
Section Energy: It is also one of a few countries currently capable of producing hydrogen in adequate quantities at a reasonable cost, because of Iceland's plentiful renewable sources of energy.
The reason given here is extremely ambiguous, and I expect most readers won't understand why having large amounts of renewable energy leads to being able to produce hydrogen more cost-efficiently. I wasn't able to find any mention of hydrogen at all in citations near the sentence. If someone knows the explanation to this, can find a source supporting it, or if the statement is false, please edit the article. Thtatithticth (talk) 16:47, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Infobox edit request (TLD field)
Iceland uses the .is tld but citizens & businesses can register and use the .eu TLD which is used and shared amongst other EU / EEA member states.

Population genetics
A topic lacking is the genetic make-up of the Icelandic population. The topic has been investigated, and I seem to remember its being the subject of some actions by the Icelandic government. One issue is the relative homogeneity of the population as compared to most other nations. Another issue is the eastern vs western genetic divide in Iceland (p271, fig 5.5.3 in Cavalli-Sforza et al, The history and geography of human genes, Princeton U.P. 1994. ISBN 0-691-08750-4 or ISBN 691-02905-9). Do I remember correctly that their government has been collecting, or aiming to collect, full genetic data on the population? Problem with introductory paragraph
The first paragraph reads as follows:
"Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean, with a population of 356,991 and an area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Reykjavík and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country are home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is volcanically and geologically active. The interior consists of a plateau characterised by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a temperate climate, despite a high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. Its high latitude and marine influence keep summers chilly, with most of the archipelago having a polar climate."
Most of what archipelago??? There has been no mention of an archipelago before this word. So it is ridiculous to use the phrase "the archipelago" when the reader has no idea what archipelago is being referred to.
(Yes, Iceland was described as an "island country", but that typically means just one island, not an archipelago.)2601:200:C000:1A0:154F:7CD1:D732:8524 (talk) 18:29, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Replaced. The only archipielago seems to be Vestmannaeyjar, and its climate is not polar. (CC) Tbhotch™ 18:37, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

The geology section mentions: “ After the eruption of the Fagradalsfjall volcano on 19 March 2020, National Geographic's experts predicted that this "may mark the start of decades of volcanic activity".”
This eruption started on 19 March 2021. The date is a year off.
The Icelandic public broadcaster mentions the start date of the eruption on this site: https://www.ruv.is/frett/2021/03/18/bein-utsending-fra-gosstodvunum-nyjar-sprungur-opnast Technimad (talk) 10:54, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

The text says that Reykjavík is the capital and “largest” city but it’s actually the “only” city in Iceland. 85.220.74.245 (talk) 01:32, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- An interesting point. After clicking through the top localities by population at Localities of Iceland, I see none of them are being labeled as cities. I can see a case for a change here, but it might need to be discussed first as it will affect multiple articles. (I did comb through the archives of this talk page but I'm not sure if it's been discussed at length) Personally, I could see something like "Largest municipality" or "Largest municipality and only city" being better verbiage, as just "only city" might confuse readers into thinking it's the only locality. The icelandic page for Reykjavík does currently state that it's the "only" city (in Google Translate, anyway). ASUKITE 02:50, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

EFTA Accession date wrong?
The info panel says 1960, but I thought (and other sources seem to confirm) 1970 was date of accession. Is there something I'm not taking into account or should it be changed? CC0Rider (talk) 14:50, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Infobox is enormous
The infobox on this article is a good example of an infobox made useless by overuse. It has been stuffed with so much peripheral material (10 bits of formation history! PPP as well as nominal GDP! two populations!) that it no longer serves the purpose of an infobox, to give a quick concise look at the topic. It needs to be hacked way back! - DavidWBrooks (talk) 00:13, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- Take a look at Norway! But I agree, there are way too many history bits and there is no need for a very outdated 2011 census population as there is no reason to think the 2021 number isn't accurate. I don't mind having both PPP and nominal GDP. --Bjarki (talk) 12:07, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of worse infoboxes on wikipedia! But it would be nice to trim this one. I won't do any cutting since this article seems to have a number of knowledgeable, regular editors who can make better decisions. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 13:43, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

GA nomination
Hi Numberguy6! I saw you nominated the article, but without addressing all cleanup templates ([citation needed] x 10, [which?], [circular reference], [clarification needed], [further explanation needed], etc), and referencing every statement, it would be the quickiest fail I can imagine. If you are new to GA process, please look through Wikipedia:Good_article_criteria. Cheers! Artem.G (talk) 18:58, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nomination withdrawn. Numberguy6 (talk) 19:01, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, I didn't want to discourage you, though articles on such a broad topics (like, you know, entire country) are really hard, and bringing them for GA is a lot of work. Reviewing current nominations can help, for me it was very useful as I saw what can be done good and bad. Artem.G (talk) 19:11, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- Artem.G sigh Yet he nominated a bunch of articles into GA. 2001:4455:30B:6C00:195B:B2A6:FCD5:EEDF (talk) 05:06, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

- I have gotten the article down to three [citation needed] and one [which?]. I would really appreciate help from others in clearing the last few cleanup items. Numberguy6 (talk) 22:46, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- All cleanup items have been cleared. Re-nominating for GA. Numberguy6 (talk) 23:38, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Now that the nomination has been instant-failed, can someone please go in and add [citation needed], etc. templates to wherever is necessary?

Republic of Iceland
Y'all are pedantic and wrong. Iceland has two official long-form names: The Republic of Iceland and Iceland. Iceland has one 'official' short-form name. The Republic of Iceland is as much a formal name of the country as Iceland. This can be confirmed by the treaties Iceland signs and by current usage by its government. I don't know why you keep having this fight. Like Argentina, it is a country with more than one long-form name. 72.12.108.35 (talk) 23:59, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
