Myron Colony's naming of Lake Ida

[edit]

I am skeptical that Myron Colony, shown on the 1860 census with his 22 year old wife Josephine, would actually name Lake Ida for his "girlfriend back East" which has been local lore in Alexandria and the Lake Ida area. It may have been in the 1800's, but seriously, how many men could get away with doing that, if they were married?
