Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Jenks24 (talk) 08:15, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Idaho PanhandleNorth Idaho – While this region certainly fits the definition of a panhandle, "Idaho Panhandle" is a bit of an exonym, one not supported by common endonymic usage. As the article itself says, "Residents of the panhandle refer to the region as 'North Idaho.'" {{Idaho}} has both terms, which probably doesn't make much sense. There's a strong WP:COMMONNAME argument for the move. For Google searches (phrases in quotation marks, -wikipedia), North Idaho beats Idaho Panhandle 4.66 million to 261k. And for what it's worth, Northern Idaho gets 1.2 million. --BDD (talk) 18:10, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose- In more than 40 years of interaction with Idaho, I have never heard this referred to as anything other than 'the panhandle' there, which is so generic that it gets 10M, but obviously includes results for the others. Since 'the panhandle' & 'panhandle' are obviously insufficient as titles, how about leaving this where it logically defaults? Dru of Id (talk) 07:10, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Exclusion from Washington State

[edit]

It seems to me there should be a section dealing with why the panhandle was broken off of the Washington Territory along with the rest of Idaho when Washington achieved statehood. Growing up in Central Washington on the other end of the Spokane media market it's always seemed odd to me. I'm willing to look into it, but if someone who already knows about the topic would be willing to step up that would be preferable. Dmbaguley (talk) 15:06, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with this 2014 comment and the history section would be enhanced about the secession thoughts of the time. Even in short and links elsewhere. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:53, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
