RAR?
[edit]One of his jobs was, apparently, with the company behind RAR, back in the day of RAR's DOS-based versions. 46.173.12.68 (talk) 13:06, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- Do you have a reference link? Would be nice to be able to add that to the article. 77.249.238.201 (talk) 21:06, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
So... He's Russian or Ukrainian?
[edit]"Igor Pavlov
Ukrainian computer programmer, created 7-Zip archiver"
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q531341
- To date, no one has provided a reliable source for that information either way TEDickey (talk) 12:48, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
- Igor Pavlov published a PhD dissertation on data compression algorithms in 2002 in which he explicitly states that he created 7-zip as part of that work:

- The timeline also corresponds to creation of 7-zip. Given that the dissertation was defended in Ufa, Russia, I think that settles the matter. Hharuhara (talk) 16:16, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Restore article
[edit]@Dingruogu I noticed you redirected the page back to 7zip. I think Pavlov meets WP:AUTHOR since LZMA is so widespread now.
Citations of LZMA https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C39&q=lzma&btnG=
Citations of Pavlov https://scholar.google.com/scholar?start=0&q=igor+pavlov+7z&hl=en&as_sdt=0,39
Also LZMA being integrated in Linux kernel is a big recognition. For now I'm going to WP:BOLD restore it, but deleting the whole article by turning it into a redirect should be discussed in AfD. Wqwt (talk) 21:27, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
