Entering the US Without Inspection As A Citizen[edit]

"It is illegal to enter the United States without inspection or authorization from government officials.[7] The illegal entry of non-nationals into the United States is a misdemeanor according to the Immigration and Nationality Act...." I am removing the first sentence here because the source does not say that... the link only talks about how it is illegal to come to the United States as a non-citizen and either evade customs or to get a job here as a tourist (etc). It does not say that it is illegal to enter the United States outside of a checkpoint.

I am not saying it is not illegal, just saying I cannot find any source online that says it is. I am a dual citizen of the United States and Canada and have been trying to look for applicable laws in regards to travelling between countries by boat, considering they would have no legal right to stop me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teamcoltra (talkcontribs) 01:50, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I'm formatting this right, so I apologize, but I removed the paragraph indicating that entry without inspection is a misdemeanor. That is a blatant misstatement of fact. No law exists that makes entry without inspection a crime. It's a completely civil matter. I also think there are some serious anti-immigrant POV issues in the remaining United States section, but I'll let someone more familiar with Wikipedia etiquette deal with that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.129.2.126 (talk) 14:51, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

vs Irregular immigration[edit]

Is Illegal entry the less runny variation of Irregular immigration? Does it eat more fiber or avoid the local water supply or what? Hcobb (talk) 22:25, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Australian section refers to irregular arrivals not illegal entries.[edit]

Australian law does not hold applying for asylum to be an illegal act and so coming to Australia and applying is not an illegal entry. The illegal entries which do occur in Australia are those people who enter on a tourist visa with the intention of overstaying and living in the country as an illegal immigrant. Entering under the false pretence of being a tourist is fraud and so illegal. Coming to the country to claim asylum is not. http://www.refugeecouncil.org.au/f/myth-long.php#illegals Djapa Owen (talk) 13:19, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unauthorised arrival vs illegal entry[edit]

Could somebody knowledgeable please clarify the difference between the two (my impression is, that it is quite a significant difference) and include in the lead section of this article as well as in the lead section of Unauthorised arrival. I also think 'not to be confused with [the other]' hatnotes would be useful for both pages. If my impression is wrong and both terms are actually quite similar maybe we don't need both pages. Many thanks.Michtrich (talk) 21:09, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Human smuggling/trafficking[edit]

I'm confused as to why this is a part of the lead for this article. I understand the connection, but there is no introduction or explanation as to why it's there. Perhaps it should be a separate section? Mangofirst (talk) 03:24, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
