Cultural notes

[edit]

Reverted. There are no "after the essay" list of cultural notes -- it is all within his essay, please be sure before you invent something like this. Julia Rossi (talk) 04:45, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

in praise of shadows

[edit]

"in praise of shadows" does not directly link to this page. I'll become more responsible in the future, but could someone fix this in the meantime? 74.250.162.67 (talk) 01:06, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translation appraisal? Comment

[edit]

I've read this essay in English. It is almost inexpressibly beautiful. Therefore, I am wondering how the Harper-Seidensticker translation was received by literary Japanese speakers or even an appraisal by Tanizaki himself. Is there any praise or criticism for the men's efforts? The success or failure of the translation is not mentioned at all in this article.
