Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that 2014 British child abuse inquiry be merged into Butler-Sloss Inquiry. Clear duplication of content. I don't have a very strong opinion on the article title itself, at present, but clearly one should become a redirect to the other. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:03, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded Clearly an unnecessary duplication. Philip Cross (talk) 10:53, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've been bold and merged it. Good to get the detail of the cross party letter, was fascinating seeing that build up on Twitter. Gareth E Kegg (talk) 23:16, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. The other article, before it was redirected to this one, contained links to Exaro reports -this, this and this, which you haven't copied across. I think that's right - though I'm sure Exaro does excellent investigative journalism, the view expressed in this discussion was that it's best to wait until those stories reach the usual mainstream reliable sources in the media, rather than reporting them direct. I agree. Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:29, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name change?

[edit]

Guess a name change will be required, as she's just resigned: [1]. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:14, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Old news, dear boy. Yes - we should probably rename it now to something like 2014 United Kingdom child sexual abuse panel inquiry, if we're not prepared to wait until a new chair is appointed. My first suggestion would probably do. We should use words taken from Theresa May's statement: "...an independent inquiry panel of experts in the law and child protection to consider whether public bodies – and other non-state institutions – have taken seriously their duty of care to protect children from sexual abuse.... a non-statutory panel inquiry". Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:51, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to intrude on your four minutes of newshound glory there. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:58, 14 July 2014 (UTC) [reply]
I've been bold. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:00, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Ireland

[edit]

It is clear that this is not a United Kingdom enquiry as a Child Sex Abuse Inquiry is already underway in Northern Ireland and the Government is refusing to let that enquiry merge into this one. As a retired Judge is the Chair of the NI Enquiry perhaps he would be acceptable to the GB enquiry? Craig9599 (talk) 10:12, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I think you are correct. The official name of the Inquiry is Independent Panel Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, and it covers England and Wales only. I propose moving the article to the official title. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:32, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganisation of this page

[edit]

This page is a bit of a mess - no doubt as a reflection of the haphazard arrangements to date. Hopefully we can rearrange the false starts into their own section once the panel finally gets down to work.JezGrove (talk) 23:31, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes... but I tried to make it less of a mess in this edit - and you unbolded the new article title (minus the word Panel), which is unacceptable per WP:LEAD. Anyway, I've now clarified the introductory paragraphs, to remove some of the confusion. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:29, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
