Experts needed

[edit]

This is an important subject considering that millions of IMEs are performed each year in the United States alone. So I'd rather not just delete the article, although if it doesn't get any attention in the next few months, that might be the best course of action. Additional WikiProjects who might have experts (or just good editors) include: WP:PSYCH, WP:NURSE, WP:DENTISTRY, WP:ECON, WP:SOCIALWORK.

I am not the person to do it because I have a personal (very negative) experience with IME after an injury in an auto-accident. But basically everyone in the business of workers compensation or auto-accident injury compensation knows that "independent" medical examiners are independent in name only; they are paid by insurance companies, or brokers acting as middlemen between doctors and insurance companies, to do cursory examinations that downplay any and all injuries a patient might have sustained in an accident (if you have sensation throughout your body, and can still walk on two legs, they'll tell you that you're healthy as a horse).

This very old link goes through many of these issues for the specific case of New York State, although some regulations have been passed since then. But the issues are widespread, not just in New York, and deserve a fuller treatment on Wikipedia than they get here. AtavisticPillow (talk) 17:59, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
