I would like to say that if we make an article of Merchantile Law it would be very useful. It can cover all the topics of Merchantile law such as Indian Contract Act, Indian Sale of Goods Act and Indian Partnership Act. Kindly take a note of it. 10:37 23 December 2014

Please help out by expanding anything that you know. This must have been a tremendous piece of work - it sounds like it codified the whole common law as it then stood. And if it is still in force today, with amendments, that is even more incredible. Wikidea 21:42, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This Act may be called be the Indian Contract Act, 1872. It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir; and it shall come into force on the first day of September, 1872. Indian Contract Act really codifies the way we enter into a contract, execute a contract, implement provisions of a contract and effects of breach of a contract —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.231.61.56 (talk) 09:51, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What cases are there decided under the Act? Could one pick, say 10 or 20 most important decisions? Do contract issues go to the Supreme Court in India, or is it dealt with by the state courts? Wikidea 13:21, 19 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Contract cases are instituted at the lowest civil courts in India, and then the appeal process can reach the High Court of the concerned state and can finally be heard in the Supreme Court. Amartyabag TALK2ME 18:06, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can check the University of Delhi website for course content (which states important cases) and case materials on Contract law here. Amartyabag TALK2ME 18:10, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Indian contract law

The result of this discussion was no consensus to merge due to limited and conflicting discussion in over a year. Dl2000 (talk) 01:13, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant to have two separate article on the same topic Amartyabag TALK2ME 18:18, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article has to be merged. Uncletomwood (talk) 05:33, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Logically, it's right to maintain two separate articles, because one should be about the Act itself, and the other should be about the whole topic - including all the case law.

Merge

[edit]

I propose to merge Indian contract law into this article and create a redirect since the former has little content. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 07:25, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The citation does not work

When you click the citation link, you get to the login website of vibu-dau.com instead of where the law is stored. 103.102.87.140 (talk) 13:43, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
