How does it actually work out?
[edit]On high levels of competition, do racers typically catch each other? Or is this essentially a race with an uncommonly used "mercy rule?" Also, as I understand it, in big competitions the racer that catches his or her opponent often needs to finish the 4000 meter race in order to see how his time stacks up to qualify for the next round. That seems to further negate the idea of the pursuit and boil it down to a simple time trial race.74.72.123.57 (talk) 19:25, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- People do sometimes catch. In qualification, the catch is meaningless since as you say people still need to set a time. In a medal race, a catch will end the race. SeveroTC 19:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
Why it was removed
[edit]There is no reason currently why this no longer exists as an event at the olympics - I found something here [1] that might be added/referenced to explain. --86.161.4.126 (talk) 18:20, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
